We hiked near the lake and were thrilled w the views of the lake, red rock canyons, hills and Georgia O'Keeffe's Pedernal Mt. Very quiet and beautiful. Picnic area overlooking the lake was perfect.
What a lovely sight to behold this enormous lake. Beautifully peaceful place to sit and contemplate. Picnic tables with a lovely view of this expansive body of water. You can go for a walk along the river on the other side of the dam, which high cliffs and it looked really nice. The "ranger" told me that had I had time, I would have been able to attend a raptor show and tell.
Where ever you travel in New Mexico your always coming upon another grand vista. This is like that as well. It's just a nice place to relax and and gather your thoughts. A nice place to wander around and explore, or just lay back and enjoy the views.
This lake has an interesting relationship to Ghost Ranch. The history intrigues me. I'd like to sail or kayak there one day. It is tucked below Pedernal
My husband loves to fish and found Abiqui Lake to be a fun place to catch some fish. Enjoyed some delicious walleye and bass thanks to he and his friends angling success. Great scenery too (in the middle of Georgia O'Keefe country)
The lake is absolutely beautiful! The camping sites are big, there are fire pits and grills in every spot. We had allot of fun swimming in the lake and fishing. There is running water and showers available on site as well as a playground for the children. This lake is a must see must camp destination! I plan on visiting there as much as possible..
the water were a bit cold, but the access to the water is easy even for the 3 yo we had with us. full accomodations all around. boat ramps, camping grounds, bathrooms, you name it. and the view from above is amazing. a great place to go on a warm day.
It was a surprise to see such a large lake and there is a plaque with the history at the lookout point.
We traveled at a time there was not another soul around. The serenity could very well be marred by masses of intruders at other times. Then it would probably take on the atmosphere of a party. The lake is huge and I think in season would probably allow boats. I do believe there is a landing for such. There are picnic tables with shelters, compost bathrooms, and vistas galore with mountains, sky, and lake making it a wonderful place to stay for a while. Pristine without people. With people, it is anyone's guess.
Drove up from Santa Fe and glad we did. The landscape is so beautiful we sat in quite just taking it all in. One of the prettiest sites in NM. We drove up to the Ghost Ranch and admired from afar. Take a picnic lunch and awe at the splendor of it all.
