Ramses II temple was built to impress the visitors coming from the south and it certainly did! The four huge statues of Ramses outside are amazing. The inside is beautiful too. Both Ramses temple end his wife Nefertari temple were moved 60 meters higher during the sixties when the Egyptian president Nasser decided to build the great dam of Aswan. The job done is really impressive. And leave these too beautiful temples under water would have been a true pity .
One of those sights that you should definitely see if you are doing a trip to the region. Ramesses II is such an important figure because he ruled for so long and thus was able to create so much for us to now see.
By the time we visited here all the Temples were stating to look pretty much the same, But glad we went.
An incredible site, especially considering it had to be moved to avoid being flooded. Great statues and the interior is beautiful. Well worth the visit, which included a three hour drive from Aswan.
Definitely one of most impressive ancient monuments worldwide (not just in Egypt) and a very good reason to visit this southernmost Egyptian town
Three things are amazing about this unique site: the size of the colossi in front so that they could be seen from the Nile is awesome; the narcissism of Ramses II must have also been awesome, and the signal these temples sent to those in the present day Sudan about Ramses II's power must have been frightening. Delighted to have seen this.
This is amazing you have to remember that this is not the original location of this temple due to the dam being built in Aswan so it got moved to higher ground but it has been put back as it was found truly fantastic
From outside, this monument is amazing but not less then inside it!Infortunately, pictures are not allowed, so, pay attention to every little detail there.P.S: Be sure to know where your vehicle is parked or you can lose it (bus, van, etc).
