Thank you for your review! We are glad that you enjoyed your time here at AMV and we look forward to seeing you again on your next visit.
Several wines were sold out or not part of the tasting. Long narrow driveway was a challenge on a busy Sunday.
Very pretty surroundings, stunning tasting area and very nice wines. Incredibly diverse selection of grapes make for interesting blends here. Well worth the trip!
All the wines were amazing (and I am not usually a fan of reds) but the bottles averaged around $30, which is more than I typically spend. The view was pleasant - I would visit again!
During a weekend trip to the region my fiance and I stopped at Afton, drawn in by the beautiful views. The setting is spectacular and the tasting room is set up to seem hip and playful. However, the staff people are rude and the pours are miniscule. As a diplomat, I travel extensively and I love stopping in vineyards and tasting wines. I love experiencing a vintage I would never find in a grocery store and meeting the people who share a passion for wine and hearing them explain what makes their product special. Among other places, I have wine tasted in Spain, France, Australia, South Africa, Italy, California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, New York. I am not new to this scene. Until I went to Afton, I had never regretted stopping at a vineyard and giving it a go even if the wine wasn't my particular taste. We were treated so coldly that I was actually offended. I left feeling bad for being such a waste of their time and wondering what we did to make the staff be so rude. Then I realized how ridiculous it is that a winery could make me feel that way. Reading the reviews here was a bit cathartic since I realized I am not alone and so now I can stop taking it personally! Besides the cold treatment, the tasting was a terrible value. You do not get to keep the glass. But worse than that, the pours are so small it looks more like someone spit a bit in the glass than poured wine. Not enough to even get a taste for the wine. To be fair other people seemed to be getting better pours, still quite small but enough to maybe taste the wine. I don't understand why Afton offers tastings if they don't want to showcase their product and at least let people get a sense of the wine. I would prefer less wines to taste but at least enough of each to actually taste it. Oh well, lesson learned. Seriously, go to the other wineries in the area, they are a better value with better wine and great service. Just avoid Afton.
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Beautiful patio overlooking the lake. Wines are above average. One of my favorite wineries in the area ( Western Virginia).
Thanks for the review! Hope to see you again soon -

We like to bring a light lunch but they also have some cheese and bread for sale. Beautiful outdoor seating area.
Afton Mountain makes good wines and is a very small producer. The outside patio and amenities are wonderful. However, the indoor tasting room is very dated and feels like your grandmothers house. If they upgrade that I would give 4 stars.
