I don't think we've been the first to visit here while trying to kill time waiting for the ferry to Harwich on a Saturday afternoon when the shops are shut - but this attraction proved to be much more interesting than I was expecting. My 3 year old son loved seeing the fish - including having the opportunity to stroke a Ray. Most of the species are from the North Sea - so make a change from the tropical varieties usually on show at aquariums. The other exhibitions were also interesting - particularly the history of the southern Jutland coast and the experiences of wartime occupation. There's also quite a good play area. The cafe has a good view of the sea - although it offered more of a cooked menu rather than rolls and snacks. Just a word of warning - the seal area is being refurbished until next Spring.
Not very big, but kills a couple of hours and some quite interesting displays on vikings and present day fishing. The seals are good and theres an alright little cafe with sea views
When you visit, be sure to walk down to the beach to see the Man meets Sea statues - they are really something & great photo opportunity. Museum has cafe which was good and fab exhibits.
If you are on vacation with the family (children) it is a great place to go visit. A lot to see and learn for the children.
i raise up in the area and we went back for holiday. It is very nice to see all about fishing on the west coast as it is not possible more at Esbjerg Harbor and the time I was a small boy. Our daughter alsom enjoy the fish from vadehavet and the seals. for my wife it was also new, as she is from Asia.
Although we have lived here for several years we went on our first visit here only recently. It is interesting to see the animals and the playground is great for kids. Also a lot of history to learn - which we didn't have so much time to look into with impatient small kids. But will do another time instead. To me the museum looks a bit dated. Could be nice with a modernization that could make it a bit more current. Building and exteriors could do with a bit of maintenance. We went in February which was ok. But the outdoor area is definitely better when it is warmer.
my subject so i would enjoy it no matter what ! interesting and informative i would go back again happily
The museum gives a good insight of the history of the fishing harbour - Esbjerg was the biggest fishing harbour in the Northern Europe. The museum also has some aquariums with fish from the North Sea + you can watch the seals beeing feeded
A little disappointing. The industrial landscape has been given a highlight with those primitive statues. One of the few attraction in Esbjerg so take it or leave it... The windy weather and the shops closed on saturday afternoon didn't help the enjoyment of our visit.
I used to go to this museum several times during my earlier school years, and the different sections with both, ships, sea animals, etc., have always been fascinating and educational to me. :)
