挺好的一个地方 我们是报了个旅行团 在从尼加拉瓜大瀑布的回程中特地过去的 在这里是坐游船在湖上转一圈 比较特别的是每个小岛上都有房子 或大或小 又是有钱人的豪宅
My husband and I enjoy traveling across the country on our Goldwing motorcycle. When we travel, many days we don't know exactly where we will stop for the night. Several years back, we were riding with two other couples and found ourselves in Alexandria Bay. It was early afternoon on a weekday in mid-September. All the schools were back in session and there were few people milling about the river front. Luckily, the tour boat was still up and running for the season, so we bought tickets and climbed aboard. Money well spent, in my opinion. The boat captain shared his experiences and vast knowledge with us as we puttered along on the Saint Lawrence River. Frankly, I had never even heard of this place, so I was amazed at the sight of houses built upon tiny islands and scattered all along the Seaway. Thousand Islands is the perfect name because that is what it is: A river filled with hundreds of islands. Some islands are tiny and others are a bit larger, but still only big enough for one house. Can you imagine having your vacation home on your own private island? Of course, the only way in and out is via boat, but that doesn't seem to be a problem for these home owners. Each house has it's very own above-ground sewer and waste disposal tank which is emptied on a regular basis, similar to garbage pickup. I imagine all of these houses are winterized and boarded up by the end of September in preparation for the long, cold months that lay ahead. I live in Alabama and don't really know anything about hard winters, but it is my understanding that the Seaway can freeze solid in January or February. If you are in the area, and want a relaxing afternoon on the river, take the guided tour on one of the double-decker tour boats. Well worth the money. One little-known fact that was shared with us: Sam Walton's (Walmart) daughter chose to build her house on the Canadian side of the river. I guess she wants to enjoy all the benefits of American citizenship without the burden of extra taxes. Shame on her!! If you have time, the boat captain can drop you off at the Boldt Castle on Heart Island, which is a five-minute boat ride from the harbor. We didn't do the castle tour because of time restraints, but it is indeed an imposing structure and worthy of a visit. If you can't visit, look up the story behind the castle on their website www.boldtcastle.com. It would make for a great movie!!
The blue waters, reflecting an emerald blue sky, calm and placid, a nice cool breeze fanning your face and the small and large islands floating by, The Thousand Islands is one of the most idyllic sails in the world. Home to the rich and famous, each island has its own unique design, one wants to stop and gaze at the combined creation of man and God.
I like flowing waters with lot of energy, yet peaceful. I love islands with lot of trees. I love beautiful bridges and sailing below those majestic structures... finally, I love spending time with my kids on a nice evening boat ride. Thousand islands is exactly a great mix of all the above. St Lawrence river is at it's best at Thousand islands. Lot of islands with magnificent buildings such as Boldt Castle and very unique island houses with Boat garages...that's some very unique experience. Sam Boats guide did provide a great explanation of islands around during the tourOnly thing I did not like was the sound systems in the boat I went. I was not so clear...probably one of those days.
We stopped here with our kids a few years ago on our way to Niagara Falls. We took a cruise to visit Thousand Islands. Some islands are small rock projections in St Lawrence River and others are bigger, inhabited with some pretty nice houses. Boat is the only mode of transportation. If you have some extra cash and happened to be looking to buy an island you can find it here. We saw the smallest international bridge which spanned between two tiny islands one in US part of the river and the other on Canadian side. When you visit make sure you don't travel in August, too many mosquitoes, otherwise this is not to be missed
Although the rich and famous may love on the river- the glory is that of nature. That's why they are there! Great boat ride! Amazingly beautiful! Smell the roses!
Very relaxing while enjoying the scenery...The crisp and fresh Fall air...And "guided narrative"...Aboard an Uncle Sam boat tourHad done the Boldt Castle before...But decided on the 2.5 hour cruise to share with visiting family from India...Especially for the many sights and Fall foliage views tooPacked our own picnic lunch to share on the boat...Also visited Boldt CastleStop at Sandy Island Beach State Park on Lake Ontario...And FINAL stop at Colosse Cheese shop in Pulaski for 5-year aged cheddar and flavored cheese curds made by the local Amish farmers Recommendations:- Allow sufficient time to buy tickets as there is always a line- Get your latte.cappucino ahead of time (none on board)- Sit on open upper deck for best views and fresh air- Bring your own lunch (they do have popcorn, lol)- Avoid their lunch aboard lunch cruise- Do combine with visit to Boldt Castle on the return and take your time visiting the castleAlex Bay is "pretty dead" in October... No crowds and easy parking... But also few eating choices
Fun day at the 1000 islands. Take the Uncle Sam's boat tour. the one hour is plenty. Like going back in time at this small upstate town.
