It is that kind of place, where you feel you want to start study...and even if you don't study anymore it is nice to go to the roof terrace for a lunch or a coffee enjoyng the beautiful view of the city!
Very Very Beautiful! Many floors full of books and many people studying and reading. At the last floor the view of the windows is amazing! When i was there i have the opportunity to see a mini concert of violin
Beautiful library, never seen such a place before. Felt more like a stylish club rather than a museum. Amazing views of the old center of Amsterdam
By any standard this must be one of the best libraries i have ever visited.Multi- storey centrally located with lots of seating capacity. the cafe on the top floor is not to be missed not only for its wonderful selection of beverages and cakes but for the panoramic views. This is well worth spending a couple of hours.
The library is unbelievably open. Everyone can access it and find something interesting to read or listen to inside free of charge. Initially I went there to print few papers from the internet and after took a short walk around. Will definitely return there many times.
You may not put libraries on your list of places to visit, but this one is pretty cool. It's near the Central Station, and on your way to both NEMO science museum and the amazing Scheepvaart (Maritime) museum. Check out the lower level where the children's books are. Make sure you climb the fun tower that overlooks the area, and best of all is the mouse tree house by famous Karina Schaapman. If you're with kids, let them play in the Yip and Janneke hideaways, loll on the cool chairs, and then make your way up to the restaurant, La Place, on the top floor for a delicious snack or meal overlooking the city of Amsterdam.
As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a perfectly adequate library. But I would not consider it a great attraction. To make proper use of the facilities, you need to have a membership. Also, usually a lot of the computers are in use, though it does depends on which time you stroll in. The customer service is in my experience fine. They are willing to help, though fairly ‘neutral’. The views are good though; both from the top balcony and from the terrace. There is also a small restaurant on the top floor and another Italian one at the terrace. There are food and drink establishments at walking distance outside. The library is also situated in a fairly favorable spot; Science Center NEMO (aimed at families and kids) is close by, The National Maritime Museum, the Schreierstoren, Central Station, etc. So overall it is just a regular, modern, library. Maybe worth a visit if you have time to kill or enjoy exploring libraries; entry is free after all. I personally would not know what you could really experience in the library as tourist attraction (aside from the views), which would make it worthwhile to make a detour for it.
lots and lots of sheet music. all genres. i think i've deforested some country or another from all the copying paper i've used at this place...good place to kill a few hours in a'dam, fairly close to central station, while reading a book...decent cafe AND a vapiano's italian restaurant adjoining...and don't forget to take one of the schindler elevators. or, as the british might say...'schindler's lift'.
This is a must see! The interior is very modern and very cool. Lots of books and music to go through. The cafe on the top floor is delicious and the views of Amsterdam are amazing!!
Go to the cafeteria at the top for a view of Amsterdam if you're in the area. We didn't look around there at all other than that.
