Yost Ice Arena was a great spot to watch college hockey. The venue is old, but has been updated appropriately. It is loud and the fans are into the game. The only downside is that there are few bars or restaurants close to the arena. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk to areas with even a small selection of bars and restaurants. If you are looking for a great college hockey venue, make the trip to Yost Arena.
Went to our first college hockey game. Go Blue!!! Had a great time. Even though are seats were further back, we had no problem viewing. The staff, security were pleasant and helpful. And the crowd was great, no pushing, no one was obnoxious, great time....that is what Ann Arbor is all about...cannot wait to visit again and wish I lived her so I could take advantage of all they have to offer!
For anyone who enjoys a very live hockey arena that has strong student attendance and interactive crowd this is a must visit. Games here are a blast and no matter where your seated you feel a part of the action.
The remodel is a-MAIZE-ing. Love what they did to bring the "barn" feeling up to date. Cant say there is a bad seat at Yost. GO BLUE!!
The arena had comfortable seats with a good view from all angles. Parking was enough for our group and was convenient.
I've only been to Yost for UofM hockey games but it's a great time. The band is great, really gets people going, and you won't find more rabid hockey fans anywhere. If you can catch what they're saying, the student chants are hilarious.
I have attended games at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor for 30 years and enjoy the experience. For an out of town visitor IF tickets are available it is a must do for the college sports fan. The fans at Yost love the team and the atmosphere reflects this. Michigan is one of the winningest programs in college hockey and worth experiencing. Almost every seat is a good one...all on benches...but it doesn't diminish the fun. Refreshments overpriced, music too loud, but hockey worth watching.
Perhaps one of the most unique and awesome college hockey venues anywhere in North America. A true bucket list location for any hockey or sports enthusiast. Amazing game experience in a classic field house facility that was recently and extensively renovated to give fans the best of both worlds. Oh, and the U-M hockey team is pretty good too!
The architecture of this building which was erected in 1923 is fascinating and while Michigan has been clever in its use of the existing structure for a use that it was never intended for there are trade offs, big trade offs. The pressbox is suspended almost over the rink itself. Forget about seeing the near side of the rink. The metal bleacher seats are at best uncomfortable and at worst a pain. If you don't take a seat cushion you will be sorry. The WiFi system is a complete disaster if there are more than about 4000 people in the building. Even the folks in the press box are bedeviled by this system.
Old but restored arena with a very unique vibe. Always a hockey game or practice or skate going on. Website would give times for a public skate and they have rental skates. Just looking up in the rafters is neat, and under the stands is copious amounts of historic pictures and memorabilia. Tickets are in high demand for University of Michigan hockey games of course but it is a neat building to see under any circumstances. Just south of Yost Ice Arena is the new museum dedicated to legendary football coach Bo Schembechler.
