Shark Ray Alley is a popular venue. You need to take a boar tour to ride out to the nearby reef. You can buy a ticket for a group tour as well as hire a personal tour. Group tours are fine. You can do this both from Caye Caulker as well as from Ambegris Caye (San Pedro). Be sure to ask several service providers tour costs to be sure of what you purchase. It is an excellent option to spend perhaps a morning or afternoon swimming with the sharks and stingrays as well as snorkeling.
Awsome, just awsome! I've snorkled in many places on this planet, but this was definetely the best experience so far. Amazing!
What a great time. Take an underwater camera such as a GoPro with you. The footage was amazing. You wont regret it.
Shark Ray Alley was the second stop of our snorkelling tour. The day was beautiful and sunny with calm waters. Our guide told us the history of Shark Ray Alley explaining why they chum the waters to attract the Sharks and sting rays. It was amazing to have so many sharks surrounding you. Admittedly, I was a little scared so I stayed back in the water to watch the eating frenzy but my spouse loved the experience as he was surrounded by the nurse Sharks and in the thick of it. Overall the Sharks as passive and were only interested interested in the food. We did get to pet a nurse shark and sting ray. Great experience!
We took our two children, ages 6 and 8, out to swim with the sharks and stingrays. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Not only did we touch the sharks and stingrays, but we also saw a number of other fish and eels.
As soon as we had tied to the mooring buoy our boat driver dropped some fish into the water and about twenty nurse sharks came in a feeding frenzy. We threw all sanity to the wind and swam right into the midst of this but the Sharks had no interest in us. We were able to touch a few but as soon as they had devoured the fish they took off in all directions leaving at least a half dozen shark Rays gliding lazily around. Unfortunately it was a heavily overcast day with a very strong wind and the water was as cold as the air temperature so we became chilled quite quickly and did not linger long. What an experince though.
...but i'm so glad that I did! Make sure you get in the water right away, because once the chum is gone the nurse sharks slither off into the murky deep, making their way to other boats. I thought I was going to chicken-out, but honestly once you get in and go underwater and can see them clearly and hear almost nothing, you become so fascinated that you forget to be scared. Individual results may vary.Bring an underwater camera so you can show your friends you were swimming with sharks! The rays and other fish are also fun to swim around- they all know how to keep their distance, so they never make contact with you.
