I've been there once with my husbandWe were delightedIts a not only a massive impressive structure but also it's a wonderful architectural building. Highly recommended
This is a hughe recently built mosque. Outside it's not very attractive (I think when lit at night it will be). Inside it's beatitul. The hughe space is impressive, and so are the decorations, especially the large ball/lamp hanging from the ceiling.
This is a relatively new structure but it is massive and worth a quick look. It looks more impressive from the outside than inside.
It is a nice place to visit. You can easily walk to this beautiful mosque from ataturk bulvar and kizilay sq. The mosque itself is on a hill you can go inside the mosque and enjoy the big beautiful building.
t's a very big mosque with a very big yard, it's very peaceful and in the mosque you can see a lot of colours. There is a so big chandler in the middle of the mosque with some little chandlers around it. It was so beautiful .
Kocatepe is one of my favourite mosques and I have seen quite a few while living in Turkey. It is very beautiful, yet settled in it's embellishments. It has been my "feel good" place all the time I spent in Ankara, even though I'm not Muslim. It is open all the time. Google the prayer times, and go there between the prayers. You'll need to take your shoes of at the entrance, avoid shorts and short skirts, and women need to throw a scarf on their heads. The entrance is common for men and women, but then women get a better deal in my opinion. They have to go up the stares to the balconies. Women pray on the balconies, therefore they see all the beauty of the mosque in front of them. Make sure to go to the highest level!
This is not the most beautiful mosque I have ever visited but it has a very peaceful atmosphere and is worth visiting. It is very large and has attractive stained glass windows. By the doors shoes can be left and plastic bags are provided should you wish to carry them about with you. Ladies should wear a scarf.
Ankara being the capital of the Republic does not have much mosques compared to other big cities of Turkey. Kocatepe can be accepted as a monument of the time of a right wing party of Turkey. It has been built in the center on a hill of the city. It is big.In Turkey mosques are free and open to visit. Opposite to many muslim countries, you do need a guide to go inside. Only thing you need to take care is your dress. You should not be in shorts and ladies are expected to cover their hair.Even if you are not muslim, go to a corner and take a sit. Unless you are not praying, there is no special way of sitting, do not worry. Take a sit and feel the atmosphere.
I always felt that peaceful atmosphere when I visit it. .Kocatepe is the biggest mosquein Ankara.More than 10,000 people can pray at the same time in and surround of it. Absolutely should be visited for the visitors of Ankara.
