Something new every time I visit. Best Italian food at Nicola Restraurant. Best micro brewery at Upstream
I have lived in the Omaha area for 8+ years and find myself in the Old Market every weekend if not every other year around. Shops for everyone and some very good eats!
This is a great place to wander around. Poke into the quirky shops, sit at a sidewalk cafe, get lost in one of the vintage or antique shops, or test one of the many restaurants or pubs. Don't miss Wheatfields Bakery for baked goods you've never seen before.
Pretty cobbly roads, lots of outdoor patios and an overall good feel to the place. I ate at Spaghetti works, and my Starbucks staple, both were pleasant, as were the staff members that served me.
Nice little area in downtown Omaha. Bars, restuarants, and niche shops abound down in this area. The night life is more of the bar type scene but it is still a interesting place to walk around no matter what time you get down there. Good places to eat all a round , horse drawn carriage rides, street musicians (sometimes, mostly in the summer) and cool little hidden shops and places of interest down there.
The Old Market is always a great time when in Omaha. There are tons of shops to visit, tons of restaurants to choose from, and tons of bars to have a good beer at. You can easily spend a few hours here. Not to mention, there are seasonal places to visit, such as ConAgra's park during the summer or the Ice Rink around Christmas.
Lots of unique shops and great restaurants and bars. A great way to spend a relaxing day in an area with a lot of history.
I am a native. I was in the Old Market when I was a teenager a very long time ago. It was where the "hippies" hang out. Yes, there are the crazy teenager/not legal bars where you will feel as if you are ancient. Or you can go South in the Old Market. Like an outdoor patio? Best in the Old Market is Bricks & Mortar Bar and Bistro. Just off the beaten path 11th & Jones. Just head down the hill. Feeling a little lazy? La Buvette. Great thing about Bricks & Mortar is they have great cocktails there. Full bar. I have been going to La Buvette for 20+ years. Just found out six months ago they had hard liquor!
great location in the heart of Omaha. Love the local shops since they are have their own unique style. Lets not even get into the local restaurants that offer great food. I do recommend the old market to family and friends as its a great way to pass time by shopping or dinning.
Like a fine wine, the Old Market of downtown Omaha has improved with age. I visited it a few times in the 80s when I was a poor college student. Now it's positively vibrant. Nebraska wicked winter and sweaty summer days aren't ideal, but the food and shops are worth the effort. Check it out.
