got to see a part of norway,, very intersting place. d´lots of tourists though, better to go in low season
If you're looking for an afternoon outdoors, maybe with a picnic, this is a nice museum to go to in spring, summer or fall. It's smaller than you would think when entering, but gives an insight in how Norwegians have lived their lives throughout history, also during WW2, and our architecture. You can easily combine it with a day at Bygdoey seeing the Kon Tiki museum, the Viking ship museum or the Fram museum (the polar museum). Or - go to Huk beach which is one of the Nicaragua beaches in Oslo.
Really nice afternoon with kids - fun to get a sense of some Norwegian history, have a nice walk and we all enjoyed learning to walk on stilts!
Very good place if you're visiting the city with your family. Here you can have a complete overview of Nordic history during the last centuries. You must check the website for the last exhibitions, but it's good also to take a look into the open air structures and attractions. Transportation is available in front of Oslo central station. Suggested for children, not very simple to visit it with limited mobility persons, even if personnel is very gentle and always ready to help.
This museum shows how people lived in Norway from the 16th century to the present day. The Gol Stave church which was built in 1200 was pretty impressive. The indoor exhibits are quite interesting with thousands of artefacts to look at. You could easily spend a couple of hours here. The only disappointing thing was we couldn't go into any of the replica houses which would have great.
An open air exhibition. Perfect for families to visit. You will see how Norwegians lived back in 1500 -1600. You can also see a stavkirke from 1200!
Great to experience an outdoor museum like this and see various examples of buildings from across Norway's history and geographic landscape. Very quiet during the winter months, so not many tourists to worry about, just be cautious of the icy paths going up and down the slopes and wooded paths. Be sure to check out the Stave church (unfortunately it was locked and we could only view from the exterior)
Lots of things to see, probably would have been better in the summer though. Th gift shop didn't have typical norwegian items which was a bit disappointing.
