We visited the Lagedo de Soledade rock art site in September 2013. The attraction is in the city of Apodi, a 5-hour drive from the state capital, Natal. The place boasts a nice visitor center, where you must hire a local guide to show you the place. The visitor center and museum have restroom facilities and a small souvenir shop with local handcrafted items representing the local rock art. You can't purchase food or water there, though. You will be charged R$30 reais for entrance with guide. It's a 5-min drive to the place from the visitor center. You will walk on rugged, razor sharp terrain all the time. Not recommended for small kids or unfit persons. Make sure you take hiking boots or rubber sole shoes, hat, sunscreen, water and snacks, and a good camera. What you see is an area of calcareous rock that had been underwater millions of years ago. Now it offers a breathtaking landscape full of crevices where around 5,000 years ago the first inhabitants of the region carved and painted rock art skillfully displaying geometric shapes, zoomorphs and mysterious images. The paintings and engravings are well preserved and there is no vandalism. There are hundreds of paintings and it still puzzles scientists who and why they were made. It's totally worth the trip. And don't miss the other place of calcareous rock 25 minutes away, called Lagedo do Rosario in the city of Felipe Guerra. The rock formation is even more amazing and larger than what you see in Lagedo do Apodi, but there's no rock art, only caves. There's no visitor center or infrastructure, so when you get to the city of Felipe Guerra, stop by a main restaurant called Restaurante e Pousada Dona Zila and ask for a local geologist called Renan. He will guide you there. Don't miss it.Tips: There's no detailed image of these places on Google, so take a printed map of the roads. Bring plenty of water, as you'll get parched, and snacks too. Walking and hopping on calcareous rock formations is dangerous, so if you trip over you'll get a nasty cut from those razor-sharp rocks. Plus, you'll have to crouch, lie down and get soiled to see the hidden beauties in the crevices. If you don't mind getting down and dirty, you'll enjoy it even more.
Vivi a pré história nesse local.
Vale a pena!
Recomendo a visita pois nao poderia imaginar no meio do nordeste algo assim.
Ja fui duas vezes e sempre me impressiono com a beleza do lugar.
