We don't make it out here as often as we would like, but there is something to do year round- ice skating, paddle-boating, etc.. The grounds are also fairly large and they even have a place to eat if you aren't a picnic person, but I've never tried it out.
Made a fire at fireplace. Cabin had all the amenities including dish soap which we forgot, had some dishes for us to use. very roomy feeling for the size. We stayed at: Site, Loop:047 SGL, Margre's Village Cabin Loop. As we drove to our cabin at night we saw some deer which was really cool as they seemed to be familiar with cars- they didn't spook. Shower was nice and warm - shower is small - the standing shower. In the morning - very sunny rays through the windows, bright. After the cabin we got a pass and stayed all day, we went to the Observary tower which was incredible. Perfect viewing and taking pictures. The restaurant was being remodeled and was closed. The lodge restaurant was also closed - which was sad - we didn't get to eat there at all. The butterfly pavilion was also closed - was under remodel. I almost hoped they had remodeled in separate dates, as almost everything was closed due to remodeling. Our trip was Jan 23 2015.
Lots of activities for people of all ages. Horses, hiking, water park, playground, conservatory, driving range, and much more.
We were needing somewhere to camp on route to Illinois from Utah, and this had great RV spots for great value. We wanted electric hookups. Checkin was not straight forward, considering there was no sign telling campers to pull over to go into the office so we ended up going to the park entry and had to go back around in circles to check in. Not easy pulling a trailer. The bathrooms were not the nicest. Would stop there again for an overnighter but would not stay long term. Restaurants in the area are non existent. You need to drive into Omaha which was a bit if a ways when it's late & you're hungry.
From checking in to the restaurant to the marina there were high school aged kids that could not communicate on the simplest level. We only stayed two nights but definitely ready to head home.
I suggest doing anything here other than renting a cabin. We had a bachelor party in a cabin and while it fit the bachelor party theme perfectly, I definitely would have been disappointed had I rented it for a family weekend. The park itself is beautiful and there's a ton to do. The cost to get in is a little high I think but it's well worth it. I haven't eaten at the restaurant for years so I can't comment on that.
We have come here multiple Decembers for a big family brunch/cchristmas Party. Managment has fluctuated over the years (may be changing again) but it has always been very accomadating to the family.Today the brunch buffet brought to out party room was plentiful and tasty! Service was the best this year than I ever remember! She was pleasent and happy to be around, and happy to serve us. Seems we have been a burden to others in the past. The Park itself is a wonderful area with most of it's fun events in the Summer. But today, the Family Christmas party was a hit!
FYI the restaurant is now closed at the Lodge. Hopefully they will get a new vendor in soon! But the park itself is awesome as always. That is why I still give it 5 stars.
I live in the Pacific NW and camp extensively. Here is the low down on this place:1) Campsites (not great at all)a) size of sites and spacing (good) but need more trees/shrubs to separateb) WiFi (pathetic). No one could connectc) No potable water hookups (pathetic)d) Distance to restrooms (pathetic). Located next camp site over.e) Noise (pathetic). Very loud train horns and freeway (I-80) noise all nightf) Natural resources (pretty good for Nebraska).2) Activities (pretty good). Horseback riding. Swimming. Tall Tower. Okay trails. Miniature golf (joke)
Mahoney State Park is a jewel with outstanding facilities that include an observation tower, riding stable, conservatory, golf riving range, mini-golf course, waterway, aquatic center, tennis complex, toboggan run, picnic shelters, theater, children's recreational area, ice rink, sand volleyball, disc golf course, hotel, and restaurant. However, in the campground the bathrooms had a heavy urine smell, were generally very tired looking, and the hot water became only barely warm after a long wait.
