We started here, tried a couple of other Aspen venues, and the came back here. If you are more a fair weather skiier, or just dont want the hassle of harder runs, unpredictable conditions and masses of other skiers and snowboarders then I strongly recommend Buttermilk. Plenty of green and easier blue runs, easy access to lifts, rental and pick up points. Great visibility all round and difficult to get off on the wrong tracks. Really enjoyed skiing here as a beginner and would come back again tomorrow! Very helpful and quick to respond staff, even the repair and support was immediately and attentive when needed (ski binder came loose, probably because of me). If you are green, this is the place for you, nice wide slopes, lots of turns, easy nursery as well, lots of places to stop on the way down and gorgeous.
Buttermilk of course is the home of Winter X games. It is also a great place for beginning skiers. Two of my grandchildren skier their 1st Blue trails here. Panda Hill is a great starter for kids. Then graduate to the green trails at the top and then finally the blue trails. This hill has a special place for our family
Good place to start off your ski trip to get your ski legs going. Unfortunately some slopes were not available as they were preparing for races - which meant the bottom end of some easier slopes were not as easy for beginners. Aside from that it was well worth spending a day or two here.
I'm not the best skier. Earlier in the week my family left me sunbathing and drinking wine at the top of Aspen Mountain while they skied. But later in the week it was my turn. We went skiing for the first time at Buttermilk. Definitely my speed and what a fun mountain to ski on. We showed up for a mountain tour with one of the Ambassadors. She took us all over the mountain and explained all the different trails and courses. What a great program. And it's free.
Hardly anybody goes here, so there is never a line. Riding some of the back chairlifts is magical: as you sweep past the aspen trees with the sun on your face. You can cruise the runs or practice your technique. Whatever you wish. The views from the top are spectacular.
Mountain has slopes for all skill levels, great location to get in and out easy. The ski patrol and all workers here are out of this world friendly. You can tell they are passionate about what they do.
Buttermilk had something for all skiers. Lots of green, blue and black runs. The runs are long and varied. The elevation is approximately 9,000+ feet.
What a wonderful place! The staff is top of the line! Not a unhappy person to be found! This is the Disneyland of ski resorts! They may not be the biggest ...but they were by far the nicest! The mountain was very very well groomed! I recommend this place for intermediate to beginners!
Haven't skied for a while. First day here yesterday absolutely loved it. An we had a lovely instructor for one of our group who hasn't skied before. She was put right at ease and is really keen now so brilliant. Beautiful place and we ve had lots of snow so lovely soft covering :)thanks x
I had a blast at Buttermilk and don't want the word to get out that they have some of the best black runs in the state! The Tiehack lift serves the black side and every time I have been there it is wide open. Most skiers and snowboarders come to Buttermilk for the green and blue runs leaving the black and double diamond runs almost vacant. Tiehack offers some of the best high speed cruising runs I have ever been on, and has some good bump runs too. If you like to be the only one on the run this is the place to go.My wife loves the green runs and the restaurant up top offers an awesome view of the peaks up-valley from the ski area.
