We came here to taste their wines and to possibly host an event. While the grounds are nice, our tasting room experience was not. The wines were uneven. The first pour was so cloudy that it looked like a smoothie. I commented, "Oh, you don't filter your wines?" to which she replied, "Red wines are never filtered". Excuse me, but yes they are. That attitude exemplifies why we will never be back. Most wineries enjoy talking to potential customers and embrace opportunities to introduce their wines to new clients. Mt. Vernon views people as inconvenient interlopers. They don't want you here, they just want your money.
I took my wife here for the first wine tasting experience (we were visiting from London). At first we were pleasantly surprised at the price - $6 try try 15 different wines... this was an unheard of price! The wines themselves were all varying levels of great. We ended up purchasing the Breast Cancer Awareness wine because of the fantastic flavour but also because of the great cause. The location is beautiful, amongst the Auburn California hills. Very picturesque. I would certainly recommend this if you were visiting Auburn.
My wife and I have enjoyed the wines from Mt Vernon for several years now. It is nice to live near so many great wineries. Mt Vernon is family run and the customer service has always been great. This is one of the more popular wineries in Placer County and can get crowded on weekends. They have a good size tasting room and a great picnicking area outside that overlooks the vineyard. Some of our favorites are their Syrah, Cab Franc, and Expressions (table red). A stop not to be missed if you are on the Placer County wine trail!
I had the extreme pleasure of visiting this winery with my sister and brother-in-law this month. The grounds are a pleasant place to bring a picnic and purchase a bottle of wine. We did some tasting and I found several wines I really enjoyed. The one thing that made me very happy is they have a few wines that with purchase the Mt. Vernon Winery donates 12.5% of each bottle sold to Cure Breast Cancer Inc. As a Breast Cancer survivor of 1 year it warms my heart that there are people and businesses willing to help our fight against breast cancer. The tasting room was pleasant and enjoyable as was the person working there. Thank you for the experience and the support.
I ordered the Sip California card through Groupon. The card hadn't come yet but I had the paperwork that showed my receipt and order #. The Sip California card waves the tasting fee and there are some other deals at wineries that choose to participate. I told the taster I hadn't received the card and showed her my papers. She barely looked but grudgingly agreed. We sampled about 4 wines. The pours were so small you could barely taste the wine. The woman pouring our wine remained cold throughout the tasting. It made me feel like she thought I was some sort of free loader. We liked one of the wines and bought a bottle. Another woman came behind the counter. She was very friendly and rung up our order. I hope I enjoy the wine I brought home once we open it. The attitude of the woman in the tasting room was so negative and off putting that I am afraid it sours the experience but hopefully not the wine. We also went to 3 other wineries (Pescatore, Lone Buffalo, and Wise Villa) in the area and had a wonderful experiences. We came home with a case of wine plus several bottles to enjoy.
Most people either don't think about the foothill wineries, or they dismiss them as sub-par. Wrong! We live a short hour drive from the wine capitol of the US, Napa Valley. But one of our favorite wineries is Mt. Vernon. They have beautiful grounds tucked in the Sacramento foothills with a nice comfortable tasting room and pleasant staff. Come thirsty because they have about 19 wines to taste if you're up for it. We joined their wine club and love to pick up our order and taste a couple of varieties while we are there. Most wines are very reasonably priced and very drinkable. Don't pass up this foothill gem.
I visited Mt. Vernon winery this past fall and was amazed at their selection for a small family owned winery. You can taste all of their wines for a very modest fee and if you purchase, that charge is used against your purchase price. I purchased several bottles of their wines and really was impressed with their white port. It was crisp and fruity and went down smooth. The tasting area and surrounding yard is pleasing to the eye and they cater to their customers in a manner that shows they know their success is determined by how they treat people.
Thisweekend will be a great placeto be. for 10 dollars you can visit 18 wineries .sample wine, and chocolate ,wow music too.this is a place to be with a loved one even if tour alone your at a friendly place so go and enjoy
The Northern Sierra foothills are slow becoming note worthy with their wines and this winery offers an excellent opportunity to taste some of the locally produced wines from local grapes. While it is not the best winery in the area, it produces some very nice wines to wet your palate.
My friends were married here. The staff was very nice and the location was beautiful. Oh, and I loved the wine :)
