I returned for my 50th High School Reunion trip to Aurora, Illinois having spent most of those years thousands of miles from my home town. I was amazed to find that in the middle of this sleepy, little midwest town was a thriving casino and restaurant floating on the Fox River. The food was much better than I had experienced in Atlantic City casinos, not as extravagant as Vegas, but definitely credible. It certainly felt more authentic and well...home grown midwestern, if one can say that for a casino. I was told the motorbike ridden by Steve McQueen in The Great Escape was in the museum, but didn't see it, however, many other relics, like those from the movie the Titanic were on display. The rest of the downtown was as sleepy as I remembered it, but the Casino was definitely hopping and the all you can eat buffet. was definitely work the money. BTW: I went for the food and the memories, not the gambling, REALLY!
This is not Vegas and you should not expect it to be. Otherwise Hollywood is decent. I really like the smoke-free atmosphere. Many of the "local" style casinos around the country are horribly smoky and I feel sick after 15 minutes or so and leave reeking.I played only tables so I cannot comment on the fairness of the slots. Certainly the tables are fair in the sense that they pay the odds they are supposed to. This is gambling and the casino always has the odds stacked in their favor. If you play for occasional fun you could have a winning, entertaining night.Mississippi Stud is one of my favorite games these days. It requires a decent bankroll and lots of patience. You can lose 20 hands in a row and then hit a big hand and more than make up for all those prior hands. I sat for two hours and dumped a lot of money, then I hit a full house and ended up leaving with double what I had come into the casino with. If you want to play please understand the rules first. I'm always sad to see someone sit down with fifty dollars which I know will be gone in 10 minutes.
This casino is smoke free which makes it very nice for us non-smokers. It has a really nice high-tech free beverage station as well. The Hollywood memorabilia is noteworthy and enjoyable to view. They took our money too fast though, it was no fun. We played various slots as well as live roulette. I probably would not go back in the future. Interestingly there were not very many people there.
nothing new or different about this casino...sucked our money up faster than most. It did have some interesting Hollywood displays, and did have a Hollywood in the 30's vibe.
It's the biggest rip off, you will lose your money faster than any other casino, They have stupid promotions so they can get you there and take all your money. The money they give away is the money they take from us. You might as well just hand over your money when you walk in and go home. !!!! Aurora Casino is pathetic.
Who owns this place? Who wants buisness??? REEVALUATE your door-staff and authority. I YOU have 6 parties who were turned away at 2am because YOUR staff "wants to go home"! My advice...promote to the public that you close your doors at 2a, so you don't insult FUTURE business and disrespect customers! Everyone who went to the door,I saw, was turned away for being "under the influence". The ONLY reason I showed up was because I was called from my BIZ partner stating he couldn't get in.. I saw 6 BIG parties of business clients who were trying to get in and were turned away. I decided to give it a shot, since I just woke up and ONLY came out to pick up my business partner, and wanted to prove a point to him that maybe he was wasted... I somehow was thrown in the class of "too intoxicated" and asked to leave with the 30 other people trying to get in at 2Iam. If you don't want to be stay open late...DONT! If you promote that you are open....learn how to run a successful business and treat your customers.. You have the lights on, staff working....makes sense to have customers!!!! I run a small business of my own and would NEVER have the staff working that Hollywood Casino does. PNL...Time to make a decision on what you all are doing.
The facility is dirty and food is horrible. Tables and slots do not pay out and patrons unwashed. Absolutely awful like words cannot convey.
I have been to this Casino for more than gambling. There are alot of slot machines and if you like to watch people it's a great place for that too. However I love going to see the bands in the middle of the Casino. You may have to search for a chair to sit in but there is no cover charge and if you don't mind just drinking from the pop machine you're good to go. A free night of music, without the alcohol. The drinks are not that unreasonable considering you're in a Casino. If you're in the area it's a great place to go.
Casino table games are reasonable, and there is plenty of room around the slot machines. If you're really hungry the buffet is really good with great assortments at $22. the sandwich shop next door is quite handy. Two soda machines dispense free drinks. Alcoholic drinks are reasonably priced..
The casino is a perfect place to have some fun...the food and entertainment is also a nice added feature...very professional.
