Nothing real special. We stumbled across this area and decided to take a walk. Temperatures can change with a quick shift from a land to ocean breeze so be prepared even in the summer with a sweatshirt.
We viewed it at high tide then went back when it was low tide. Amazing that you are walking in the middle of the Atlantic. Seaweed attached to rocks just lie there waiting for the tide to come back in. Amazing experience.
We love exploring what the waves may have washed in. It's always fun for us to investigate the high/low tide times to plan our walks out to Bar Island!
When the tide is out, the walk starts as rocky, then becomes a hilly hike but is totally worth it. The view of Bar Harbor is unparalleled!
If you have kids, they will want to go to the land bridge everyday as mine did. The loved exploring all the little puddles for life. Wonderful family time.
This is a one of a kind experience walking across where water used to be a few hours ago. Wear boots......but enjoyable.
I didn't get to walk the Bar but saw many people doing it so I know it is a good thing to do. However, just to the right facing where the tenders take you from the cruise ship and down from the park where a cannon is displayed is a little beach front where I picked up a few pieces of sea glass. This was a great souvenir to take home with me. Just saying!
Check the tide charts, you've got anout 90 minutes on each side of low tide to walk this, takes about 15 minutes each way, plus there are trails on Bar Island if you're adventurous. The low tide smells are there when you first cross onto the bar, but not so noticeable after a while.
An easy walk with great views, when you cross you're in Acadia State Park .Enjoy just watch the tide times so you can get back without getting wet !I took pictures from the same spot so you could see the difference.
Walking on the land bridge during low tide is a fun experience. Lots of shells, and aquatic life to discover.
