My family has been going to Maine for years on vacation and this trip was something I wish we would have found a long time ago. With my wife and my son and our grandson all waiting at the dock @ Cook’s (very easy to find and access) we met Captain Jay and boarded the lobster boat. From the moment we stepped on the boat Captain Jay had both boys’ full attention and the learning experience was underway. From wood traps of old to the modern traps of today we pulled and baited traps and of course caught many lobsters. One of the last traps we pulled we brought up a female (yes you will learn the difference) that was estimated to be 7-8lbs and 50+ years old. Captain Jay was even a bit surprised at size of this catch! Just a great time and really was a special day.

Learn about lobsters and lobstering from the water. Captain Jay mixes educational information about the life of lobsters, how lobstering works and the lobstering industry with great stories from his life in lobstering. All of this from an actual lobster boat. Definitely worth a visit!

If you visit Maine to get away from crowds and commercialism, this lobster boat tour is what you are looking for. As an added bonus, Bailey Island is a very scenic location. The skipper, Capt Jay, is professional, humorous and very knowledgeable (and could have played Quint in Jaws!). He is the real deal and gives you a "hands on" experience on a working lobster boat (which also happens to be clean and comfortable). Capt Jay allows his guests to assist him pull lobster traps from the sea and throw the lobsters back into the ocean (all while telling great sea stories). He even let our 7 year-old son drive the lobster boat - an experience he will never forget. Bring your camera on this trip or you will regret it. I am a 48 year-old father of three boys and I can honestly say this tour was one of my family's most memorable vacation experiences and well worth the price.

This was the first excursion we did in Maine and it was well worth it! Captain Jay was soo friendly and funny! He showed us all around the bay as well as the ins and outs of catching lobster. If you have the time this is a must do!
