Such an amazing town. Ive lived in Canmore and Banff now 4 years and Banff to me is such a beautiful awesome, friendly place. Canmore has too many city folk in it and the people can be un-friendly. Banff just always has that buzz to it, that excitement and pure happiness of everything who ventures along Banff ave. Banff ave will always remind me of the first time I was captivated by Canada, purely and wholly fell in love. I still remember at 6am getting off a grey hound after 25 hours of travel. It was dark and I could faintly see the shadow of a looming massive chunk of limestone. I waited, in suspense to see it, and will never forget the most amazing colors and light as I watched sunrise hit Mt Cascade in August (the most beautiful month) in the rockies. Im still here, (4 years later) and love Banff and Banff ave like a 2nd of 3rd home.........
Lots of deals available on souvenir items but if just buying maple syrup or maple candy type items than go over to Bear st and find a little Japanese store that also sells sushi. Much cheaper for the exact same items and very friendly staff!
Truly, the best beer in town, two excellent IPAs, great food, great staff, many locals, free Wi-Fi. Because beer matters!
Lots of shops and restaurants with beautiful mountains on either end. Plenty more throughout Banff, along with grocery and liquor stores, with plenty of parking.
Banff in the summertime comes alive with RV's, tourists and locals aiming to please but I actually came to see Musician Daniel Lanois and the band, The Great Lake Swimmers at the Shaw Ampitheatre at the Banff Summer Arts Festival August 10th and ended up falling in love with Banff all over again. The music on stage seemed even more potent surrounded by those majestic mountains in that atmosphere of clean mountain air. It was a hot day but there was free, cold water on tap and an ongoing burger barbecue that kept us happy throughout the performance. Afterwards, I enjoyed the walk down through town on Wolfe Street, just as much, taking in the magnificent scenery, bustling shops and enthusiastic crowds. It was a shame that I didn't have time to indulge in a swim at the Hot Springs while there but that's another reason to return to Banff.
If you want to get away from it all Banff Ave may not be the placefor you. Lots of shopping to get lost in and the prices were ok.There was also alot of different nationalities that made it interesting to hear the dialects. Depends on what you are looking for. Restaurants too.
plenty of shops, resturants and hotels are not far to walk, there is a safeways, and cinema just off the main street
The streets are busy here and you can hear different languages as you walk down the street. Still it seems that is what Banff issomewhat about. Lots of souvenir stores and clothing too. Price seem to vary alot.
The thing I love about Banff Ave is that no matter what wat you're walking up or down the street, you can look up and be surrounded by sun capped peaks everywhere. Wow, it really is stunning and what you imagine a little Canadian Rockies town to look like. There are loads of candy shops around - not sure why and lots of merchandise shops like North Face, Helly Hansen etc. A nice place for a walk. Head a block back and you will find lots of cool restaurants.
banff avenue has the most cool curio shops as well as restaurants as any street i've seen. it also is very walkable from the hotel row to the river and beyond. my only suggestion on the restaurants is to make reservations. they fill up fast and the sheer number of tourists make reservations a must to any of the foodie places.
