All three lighthouses in Batan Island are non-working but are well-maintained. You will get to experience this lighthouse on the Northern part of you tour. This is a good area to experience sunset as it is facing West Philippine Sea.
The Basco Lighthouse is an iconic Batanes landmark on Naidi Hills. We got to climb up to the 5th floor to see the view of Basco on one side and the bay on the other from the lighthouse's viewing deck.
We arrived at sunset, and was treated with an uninterrupted view of the Batanes coastline at sunset. There was even a wedding held an hour before our arrival, so we got to watch the picture-taking of the bride and groom - quite a romantic setting.... The Tour Agency we hired arranged for us to have dinner at the adjacent Bunker restaurant, which served a sumptuous meal. The view, coupled with the breeze and smell of the ocean with the quaint lighthouse as your backdrop makes it one of the best places to go to in Batanes.
Haay. This place is really wonderful. This is very near to the city. This is part of North Batan tour. If I were you, just rent a single motor so you could enjoy this place.:)
Basco lighthouse is beautiful. It affords spectacular views of the town and ocean. There is a man who makes souvenirs at the base of the lighthouse where you can buy them. Support the local economy!
Climb Basco lighthouse to view the sunset from there. Then return a second time and have a picnic by the area where Bunker's Cafe is located (closed and not operating when we visited). Make sure to check Mt. Iraya by the east side when you spend the sunset here. If you're lucky enough, you'll get the golden sunset on your west side and Mt. Iraya with a moon by the east side! We did and it was the perfect end to our Batanes trip!
We went to the Lighthouse as part of the first day tour. The view was breathtaking and the breeze wonderful. We went up the lighthouse and spent some time inhaling the fresh air at the top. We waited for sunset and took pictures. There is a souvenir store at the ground floor. Prices of souvenirs are the same in most stores so if you want to buy something there is no need to hold back.
There are two lighthouses in Batan Island - East and North. The latter is really easy to visit, while the former takes a bit of a traveling. Both are worth the visit!
Easy access by foot to this lighthouse which doesnt work as such anymore but is a popular landmark for sunset viewing. No rickety stairs here but winding stone steps leading to the viewing deck where you afford a 360 view. Clean and no vandalisms. It was windy when when I went there so I couldnt get nice photos, not with all my hair (even in ponytail) flying around.Great for jumpshots against the sunset though.
Surreal, awe inspiring, and romantic--that's how I would describe the views at the lighthouse. The lighthouse itself has a rustic feel to it. It's the views that will eventually get to you and make you want to sing The Sound of Music!
