what a beautiful abbey this is ...the ceilings are so ornate. Really enjoyed walking around and the peaceful and calming feeling you got from the visit was amazing
Beautiful abbey!.Do one of the guided tours it's really worth it to learn about the history of the abbey. Can also do the abbey tower tour.
Disappointing. most of the Abbey was covered up for renovations. Intimidated by the "suggested" donation required upon entry in the porch of the abbey before you can get in. Wouldn't bother going again. Nicer places in town
If you are fortunate enough to find yourself in Bath, you must stop by the Abbey. It is a beautiful Gothic style cathedral with a wonderful history. The fan inspired vaulted ceiling is unique and beautiful. Do not forget to look down at the floor and look at the names and dates of those who proceeded you. The most memorable portion of our visit was the Tower Tour. For £6, you climb 212 steps to the roof for a birds eye view of the City and the seven hills which surround it. Before you reach he top, you visit the bell room and see the different ways the bells can be rung; you also visit the bell chamber and get to see the bells that you most likely heard prior to your entrance into the Abbey. The guide provides a great historical overview as you climb, rest and duck through low ceilings and a few narrow spaces. My daughter and I were the only ones on the tour; we definitely felt we were receiving a unique behind the scenes experience. We were even allowed to ring the bells! I do not recall the name of the individual who guided us, but he was a great host - a true gentleman, full of knowledge and kind (locked up my backpack so I did not have to take it on the climb and took our photo).
Having admired the architecture, most of our time was spent reading many of the memorials which told stories of times past. The diptychs are stunning and the work of one lady, Sue Symons. The craftsmanship is superb. Some very talented buskers were also performing in the vicinity and provided an extra dimension to the visit. Worthwhile way to spend an hour.
Bath Abbey
Oh wow is what sprung to mind as we walked through the internal doors, beautiful beautiful beautiful! There was a wonderful array of historical tomb stones there with beautiful stained glass and an incredible ceiling. The organist was playing whilst we were walking round which made it even nicer.
