We stopped here mainly to see their Sears mail-order barn. We were looking for the Bayfield Winery and did not realize it was connected to Hauser – a hint if you go, the Hauser signs on County J are much easier to spot than the Bayfield Winery sign we were looking for, and there are no grape vines to mark their location, because they only make apple wines! But other than the trouble we had finding it, it was worth the stop. The 4,500 – 5,000 hats, small beer can collection and toy tractor collection in the upper barn were fun, but it was an unusually hot day so I didn't linger long. (It is accessed by steep stairs, so my 76-year old mother did not come up). The only view of the lake I saw was at top of the (exterior) stairs, which was rather limited because of the trees. The store has lots of unique items, like a great selection of jams. We did the wine tasting, and even though we don't like sweet wines we found a couple we liked. We did not try out the self-kicking machine. :)
We expected more from the recommendation we had gottten at the Bayfield Visitor's Center. The person serving "apple wine" was a delightful gentleman although the wines were awful. But $5 with a glass was an OK value - a grandchild will use the glass later for juice .
This is a fun place to stop with your family. They have very interesting food and drinks with samples of everythng out to try. We got spreads and wine which is apple based. There are some interesting things to see - climb on a tractor, huge barn with even bigger hat collection, a kicking machine, and a lovely hot house. I good place to stop for an hour.
Fun and great jams! Losts of apples to chose from and also some nice wind chimes. Just fun to look around and see all the wines and goodies they had to offer.
Visited Hauser's for their wine (which was a delicious) Be sure to stop inside the big red barn for something I wasn't expecting! You will find a HUGE collection of baseball caps and beer cans...along with an amazing view of Lake Superior! Only a few miles up the hill from Bayfield.
Friendly farm with lots of great samples and apples. Also, wine tasting (for a fee) with many wines. Big picnic area outside with play areas for the kids. Eclectic collections to look at in the old Sears Roebuck barn (hats, beer cans, miniature tractors). Hiking paths are available too. Easily could spend lots of time here just "poking" around!
We tasted their fruit-based wines. There was a charge of $3 per person, but you do receive a glass and you get to try all of their wines. We enjoyed their wines and purchased 3 to take home with us.
We visited Hauser's with our family. The kids loved the tire swings and the desks in the barn. My wife and mother in law loved the gifts and apples. My father and I enjoyed sampling the many apples and apple wines. As someone who appreciates traditional wine and approaches fruit wines hesitantly, I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor and complexity of the apple and pear wines. The barn is worth a visit, the views are tremendous. This year the honey crisp apples were amazing. The one negative was there were two staff members working, the one working the wine tasting was very kind, friendly, and offered my kids a whole apple each. The other one working the cash registered yelled at my kids for stealing apples, and when I tried to explain the other woman working had given them their apples, she yelled at me. Other than that, we really enjoyed Hauser's.
You have to check out this great Orchard up in the hills just outside of Bayfiedl! Go in the barn and climb the stairs to the window over looking the area! Great view of the Bayfield area and Lake Superior. Also check out the collection hundreds of baseball hats in the barn! Great apples, pies and other goodies! Very friendly people!
We went during their plant sale and had a really good time. They had a ton of plants that were priced really well and the people who worked there were really helpful. They had wine tasting and a great little store and a great view.
