The tasting experience at Morais far exceeded the others we had over an entire weekend. They have skillfully paired each wine with a complimentary food- cheese, chocolate, etc, which did not happen for the rest of the weekend (except for the Hershey kiss offered at another winery!). The tasting room is stunning, and the on-site venue would be a perfect setting for a party or wedding. Our server was exceptional- a fantastic experience overall.
Beautiful building and grounds, amazing tasting room. Wine selection is a little smaller, but the wines were pretty good.
The tastings were $8 and $15 which was a surprise since most tasting are free. But after the first few samples we decided to go for the $15 tasting which includes the dessert wines. The serving size is much larger than all other wineries. They also serve you a tasting plate of cheese, crackers, meat and chocolate. I would highly recommend hitting this winery for the tasting.
Let me first clarify in light of other reviews. Virginia wineries almost never offer free tastings. A fee between $5 and $10 is standard stuff, not only here but along the East Coast. But the tasting at Morais includes a small sampler of meats, cheeses, and chocolates to pair with their wines, which makes this a very good deal. And no, I do not work for the winery. :-)We were attracted to the winery because they advertise themselves as making wine in the Portguese-style, and my wife and I love Ports and dry reds from the Duoro Valley. The winery is only a few years old, so they need more time before producing a port-style wine. And some of their wines are not terribly distinctive. But they do some things very, very well. The Battlefield Green is their take on a vinho verde featuring Albarino grapes, and it is good. They handle Cab Franc very well -- the Rose is excellent and the Cab Franc light but full of fruit and pepper (black pepper, not bell pepper -- the latter is a sign of underripeness). And the Moscatel... I was skeptical, but this is very much like a lighter version of a tawny port. It was wonderful.Very kid friendly. I do think that their wines are a bit overpriced, especially the whites.
Visited with family and two young children. The lady that did our tasting was wonderful...extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We sat at a table and did the tasting, which included a plate of bread sticks, cheese and ham. We were also able to talk with the wine maker which was an added bonus. Their wines are Portuguese and so good that we purchased 2 cases. Loved thier Rose! My daughter got her own plate of snacks (hers had some chocolate included), and she really enjoyed the horses. A great experience, and I am sure we will be back!
Visited Morais Vineyards and was very impressed with the tasting room and our server, Jamie. She was very knowledgable and friendly. She took the time to explain the wines and suggested pairings. The facilities are superb and we look forward to a return visit. Would only suggest they attempt to offer some food choices for guests.
My husband and I stopped by Morais for a tasting, and were very pleased with what was offered. I did the classic tasting ($8 for 8 tastings) and my husband had the deluxe ($15 for 11 tastings plus a souvenir glass). In addition, both tastings included a small plate of meat, cheese, breadsticks and chocolate. The wines were of good quality, and the staff member who assisted us (Candace) was friendly and knowledgeable. This is certainly a winery we would visit again and recommend to friends. The atmosphere was elegant, and it seems to be a lovely place for events if one is in the market for that.
I loved the facility and the Portuguese styled wines. What was less appealing was that the place was filled with children. Being in a romantic setting tasting delicious wine and food pairings with the din of child noises was not ideal for me at all. Don't get me wrong, I raised 2 kids but I didn't include them when wine tasting.
Morais a romantic vineyard close to Warrenton, so convenient if you're interested in a wine loop. They have a spectacular circular tasting room and beautiful mansion-like event room with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We liked their Cabernet, but really loved their Cherry cordial and fortified Moscato - similar to brandy or Grand Marnier, but at 18% alcohol.
Six of us went today. It's a beautiful tasting room. Staff was friendly and informative. The red wine is especially good. They have a good number of wines in their tasting. Great time
