This is a wery popular route among the lokals. Every year its a run called Stolzen opp, and its getting bigger and bigger. Its alot of stairs up to a mountain top. Down again, its a road you can go. This is hard, but if you go slow everyone can do it ( if youre balance is ok). The wiew is great.
Most locals use these stairs several times a year and almost all Bergen's have climbed these stairs more than once in their life. Beautiful view and a perfect start for a hike further in the Mountains around Bergen.
Fantastic experience, not for the faint of heart. Make sure you have appropriate footwear and clothing. The view from the top is breathtaking. Enjoy!
Going up the traditional Stoltzen is a must for anyone living in Bergen, or at least Sandviken, and I recommend it to all my guests! Use 10-30 minutes to run or walk up as quickly as you can or take it slower if you want. Fantastic view from the top where the arrow is. Go down Skredderdalen or Munkebotn, I prefer the first. Esy to find your way down as there are signposts pointing the directions, even if your a visitor.
Yes, it is a physical challenge, but the rewards are great views over Bergen and a beautiful lake just at the top end of the climb. Continue towards Floyen and enjoy the scenery. And do not let you put off by the number of steps: The climb is ok if you are fit. Just take your time.Chose a dry day as stones become slippery when wet!
I have been walking and running this track several times and its a very nice trip. On the top you will have a fantastic view of Bergen and the soundings. But its not a walk in the park so be prepared on a challenge.
It depends on your stamina, but this 800 meter and 300 height meters are pain and agony for everyone! The record is around 8 minutes, but people average around 13 minutes for trained people. This is just pain!
I guess this is great for you who are fit and not smoking 15-20 cigarettes a day, but for me this was a intense pain from the first step. And I only went DOWN!!! I would have died 6 times if I had to go up this way. No chance for me! But anyway I think it is great for Bergen to have this unique "stairway to heaven". Maybe I´ll try to go UP next time ;-)
The fastest runner in the annual event of "Stoltzekleiven Opp" takes 08:06 minutes to get up to the hilltop. An average climb is said to be about 15-20 minutes. It took us about 30 minutes though to get up and it was very exhausting. Some parts are a little bit steep as well. All in all the climb might be exhausting, but also very nice to do if you're healthy and in a good condition (don't need to be a very sporty or fit person). You can stop any time to get back in shape and take as long as you need. There's no rush. I really recommend the trip up Stoltzenkleiven. And once you're up you'll have a beautiful view over the city and the fjord, which is really worth the climb. We went up before breakfast and took food and coffee up with us, to enjoy ourselves at the hilltop while having breakfast and enjoying the view. From Stoltzen you can easily walk the way to Fløyen, which takes about 60 minutes.
A beautiful but challenging hike , not too far from the city centre. Start off slowly and keep a steady pace to the top. From the top a rewarding view of the city and its surroundings is found. Return vie Fløyen or Skredderdalen.
