Great beach with lots of room and services. There are great views from the pier at sunset, views of Big Red, and volleyball courts available. It is very fun to sit along the channel and watch the boats come and go (even though we do miss the dune). Campgrounds are also available nearby.
There are those who say that swimming in the ocean is the best. They obviously have never been to the great lakes. The soft sand beaches and warm water combined with the scenic views make Lake Michigan a hidden gem of West Michigan. Enjoy the views of Big Red while watching boats go through the channel or simply walk along the pier if sun bathing isn't for you. Good for all ages! Also, worth a visit in the winter to see the ice!
Gorgeous scenery in the winter. Walked down by the light house for a short while, it was pretty cold. I'll add some photos.
Stopped over in Holland for a couple days. Based near the beach. The beach was great to get some sand under your feet and enjoy the sun however the water wasn't very good for swimming. Stayed at the local campground "Holland State Park Campgrounds". Was quite busy. Got charged extra on our bookings as we weren't locals. The grounds were messy. The showers you had to hold a button to keep the water running, so basically had to shower one handed. Campground booking covered beach access fee.
This is why we moved here. Beauty in every season, warm and plentiful sand in summer and ice waves in winter. There is a boardwalk in the summer suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The walk from parking lot to water is long so be prepared. State park fee at entrance is required and it fills up on holidays.
Beautiful beach to hang out at day or night. Enjoy the lake or just sit, relax and watch the boats. Boardwalks to stroll on.
We pulled into town just in time for the sunset. Drive to the very end of Ottawa beach and you will enjoy one of the most amazing sunsets you've seen in a while. We were joined by a crowd, but everyone was there to enjoy themselves the scenery. Great show!
Great winter scenery, with mind boggling "iceberg" sightings and a frozen lake as far as eyes can see. In the summer the activities are numerous, such as "people watching", swimming, and any other watersport you can imagine. The park does not have many service offerings, so bring all that you think you will need for your time at the park.
I was in awe on the fabulous bathroom and shower house. I was just there for the afternoon but give it a thumbs up. Beach is wonderful but has little shade to offer. We ended up sitting under a shade tree over on the bay side
This was my first time at Holland State Park in the winter, and it was amazing to see all of the ice on Lake Michigan. People were walking out to the lighthouses on some of the ice mounds, but unless you have crampons on your boots, the distance you can go is limited. Beautiful.
