The falls are beautiful and worth a stop on your way up to Mt. Baker. I'm not sure that I'd make it my single destination as there isn't any real hiking around the falls. Essentially you get out, do a short walk to the falls and turn around. They are beautiful though!
Area is very beautiful, but the vantage point of the unmarked lookout for the falls does not lend a full view of the falls. It is worth the drive on the gravel road.
It is a short drive from the Mt Baker Scenic Route to see Nooksack Falls. The walking path is a little tricky through gnarly tree roots and steep up and downs. The vantage point views from about the halfway mark of the falls. You can barely see it fall into the ravine. Look for a rainbow affect on the rock at the bottom of the leftmost falls. It is worth a few minutes to add this sight to your day-trip on the beautiful Mt Baker scenic highway.
If you are heading up to Mount Baker this is a wonderful place to stop and see. The falls are beautiful and a great place to take pictures. Plus it's free!!
Well worth a quick stop on the way to Artisan Point. The dirt road is a bit pocked, but going slow alleviates the bumps. The falls are essentially 50 yards from where you park. The path is a bit tricky with rocks and tree roots, but again like the road, slow and steady wins the race. The falls--of course--are gorgeous...
Turns out the pictures I'd seen before going to Nooksack Falls were taken by professional photographers who probably risked their lives to take the picture. They even list on the board the names of people who have lost their lives trying to go beyond the barriers! The good news is it is pretty even from the fenced area and is not far from the Mt. Baker Scenic Highway. There were no bathrooms there and no place to picnic. I took some pictures but would have loved to have viewed it from the bottom of the Falls rather than the top. If you're on the Mt Baker Highway, stop in!
If you are heading up to Mt. Baker, be sure to stop at the Falls on the way up, as the turn is on the right and a bit hard with trafic and angle coming back. It's a wonderful falls, but be careful to stay withing the fenced area, as several have slipped in. Free.
In late May, there was a lot of water (glacial melt) flowing over the falls. Later, in September, the flow was only a fraction of what is was in late May. Parking at the falls is limited and a bit tricky to navigate. Definitely worth stopping to see if you are on traveling on the road toward Mount Baker.
On your way to Mt Baker in Northwest Washington is a dirt road pull off and after about a half mile a bridge and a parking area. If you can navigate uneven ground, go across the road and work your way to the fall noise that you are hearing. After your short hike you will be rewarded with a great falls. There will be several view of the face of the falls and another look of the top from the bridge. This is an undeveloped site except for the railing but is a great picture taking opportunity. If you venture outside the fenced are be very careful the ground is wet and rocks slick and there have been deaths (mostly teanagers) of adventuriers, I have shot this falls several times over the years and truly love it.
This is one of the shortest hikes on the route to Heather Meadows and deserves a stop. Had a little trouble knowing if we were at the right place, so make sure you have a decent map to help you get there. We stopped at the information place in Glacier and the person there was very helpful.
