Five stars, two enthusiastic thumbs up, a standing ovation. Way to go Bismarck!! Seriously - the newly remodeled Heritage Center is fantastic. It's spacious, modern, interactive, educational and engaging. We were there for several hours and could have stayed for several more!I'm a Bismarck native and have been to the Heritage Center many times in my life - it was amazing to see the drastic overhaul of the building and their dramatic leap into the modern era. I was very pleased with all of the changes and would recommend it to anyone - it's great for all ages and walks of life.Well done!
This place is actually super cool for adults or grandparents and young kids/early teenagers. It really does have some fun stuff for all ages and they are expanding and making it nicer even!
Being a lifelong ND resident with many visits to this museum, I have to say that the new addition and total revision will shock anyone who hasn't been there in the last year or so. This is a first rate museum that can exceed most people,s expectations, I believe.
Took many field trips to the Heritage Center as a youngster. Have also visited since with family and then my husband. This was our first visit to the NEW Heritage Center though, and we sure enjoyed it.I was so happy that the "Smell a Bison" exhibit made the move. Sad that the honking geese and the egg exhibit did not. They will be missed.Nostalgia aside, the building and atrium are lovely. The exhibits are expansive, there is so much to see. You can easily spend hours there and it seems like a big city museum! You can tell that coal paid for a good portion of the place though, considering there is an entire exhibit on power plants and electrical cooperatives. :)Best of all it is still free to visit. The new parking lot is a wonderful addition too.
My family lives here in town, and we have been there multiple times. Every time we stop, I find something I missed. There is so much to see, especially with the new galleries. I truly love this place. The history just flows out of it. The displays are amazing! The only negative thing I could even think to say would be that my family says that I spent too many hours there every time we stop!
My sister and her kids and I went to this while my brother was sitting in at the meetings at the capitol and it was undeniably wonderful! From the front desk attendants to the displays, to everything, it was incredible. The kids loved it. My sister and I loved it! Highly recommend to everyone!
A free museum in most places is rare. A free museum of this quality is astounding. Maybe it's the oil money, but this is one of the best free museums I've been to in the whole USA. Very well done.
This is a wonderful museum with a huge new addition. Follows a lot of the history of North Dakota. There are now dinosaur displays. If you are in town and have time I would recommend going, and it is located on the grounds of the capital.
The old Heritage Center was good for history fans. The new ly expanded heritage center is much larger and more interactive. It has something for everyone including those who nare not too interested in history.
This recently completed state history museum is a large modern building with a series of themed exhibit rooms that include natural history, Native American history, Euro-American settlement and 20th century development. I stopped only for a brief time and will return next time I'm in Bismarck. Admission is free with donations accepted.
