On a recent (September 2014) business trip to Bellaire, MI, we were put up at Shanty Creek Resorts. I'm typically more fond of staying in large cities. But I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable Shanty Creek was, the number of amenities they provided, and beauty of the region. The rooms were comfortable and had amazing views. Room service was prompt and always accurate. The front desk staff were courteous and even offered to walk me to my room after I managed to get a little lost.
We just spent the past week skiing at Schuss. The snow conditions were great despite rain on December 27th and little snow. Kudos to the grounds crew. Relocating the rental and ski school to Cedar River is a big improvement. The dining atmosphere in the River Bistro is much better than the fluorescent diner atmosphere formerly in Weiskopfs. What I enjoyed most, was the increased attention to customer service. Everyone seemed happy and friendly, especially the lift operators and parking lot attendants, even the ski school desk personnel were pleasant. Congratulations. I am anxious to see the improvements to Ivan's, perhaps a Coney cart or hand made deli sandwiches like Nub's are in the future.
I went to Shanty Creek on a whim for a day off during the week and had an excellent experience. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, the atmosphere is fantastic and the course was in great conditions.
Great resort. Everyone very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and had a great view of the lake. Loved the fireplace and kitchenette.
Even though it was a little farther to drive, we decided to stay here. The value was unbeatable. I booked 2 weeks before the race. I wasn't expecting very much. I was stunned to find it to be a ski and golf resort. The grounds of the property are very well groomed, and kept. There are several shops here also. The staff was very friendly and courteous. When we got into the room it was warm and clean. This was the perfect place for a good night's rest before a race. I will be staying here again for the next race.
This was our third consecutive year visiting Shanty Creek Resort in early September for golf. We are a group of 8 from near Toronto, Ontario and thoroughly enjoy each and every visit to Shanty Creek. The accommodations, food and service from the friendly resort staff make the incredible golf that much better. Shuttle buses make for a stress free weekend and are an added bonus. Shanty Creek offers an excellent all around experience that makes us look forward to returning year after year...so much so that we have already booked for 2015!The Legend and Cedar River are must play courses and are well worth the drive. 6 rounds in 3 days and we leave wanting to stay and play more!
This resort was excellent for my wife, my 2 kids and I. My son is learning to snowboard and the instructors there were excellent, even in the frigid temperatures, sub zero. The courses were very well groomed and there was fresh snow. Around the area there are a few local eateries, however the restaurant inside the Commons area was great for gathering, lunch and dinner. We will return there next year!
My daughter treated me to a weekend getaway with my grandkids the last weekend of February for my birthday. I have been at Shanty Creek in the summer and enjoyed their golf facilities, but I had never stayed in the winter, which was a lot of fun.We stayed in a suite at Summit Village, which had a wood fireplace and amazing lake views. I am not a skier, but I did enjoy the nordic trails along the Cedar River and I loved the dueling pianos show at Ivan's. I had a massage at the spa, which was great. My grandkids loved their snowboarding lesson with Spencer, their time in the tubing park and of course, the indoor pool. It was the perfect weekend getaway for the entire family. Thank you Shanty Creek.
This visit for me was "going to the well" for much needed revitalization. We were there for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend (spent 3 nights). This was our first time at the Summit Village, and our first time going in the late fall. The beauty of the snow added to the refreshing feeling of revitalization! We did not go to ski. The condo was well kept and the view from all points; even inside the condo living room was spectacular! The wood fire place, which we kept going non stop was a plus. It is not far from Traverse city, where I went shopping. There is a nice grocery store within Bellaire, and it was well stocked, allowing me to prepare all of our meals in our condo If you are looking for peace, quietness, and a place for reflection this is a beautiful place.
im not sure they put the money back into the ski side of this place that they need to.the day use area feels like a double wide trailer. the bathrooms are caves.the entire place feels a bit unwelcoming - we had the hardest time figuring out where to go and how to get around, and we spend a fair amount of time at a lot of different ski hills - example - the bar/restaurant, they have people that bring you water, so you feel like you have to tip or order something if you just sit down to warm up for a few minutes... except, the food is self serve... so you are left either slumming it in the double wide, or feeling like you are taking up space meant for paying bar patrons when you just want to sit down inside for 20 minutes. it was an odd and unwelcoming feeling.the hill itself isnt bad, but their grooming leaves a lot to be desired. never have i seen so many ridges between passes. the red lift was our favorite.the summit mtn is pretty sad. for fun, we raced down the hill to see how far up the lift we would pass the chair we just got off. lets just say the lift is slow and the hill is small.
