Hosmer Lake is a great place to kayak or canoe. It's a beautiful setting and a unique place for an outing. My wife and I go one or two times a season.
We tool a Wanderlust Tour to canoe on Hosmer Lake. Our guide, Courtney was fantastic. She gave a good briefing on canoeing and safety before we took to the lake. Her biology lessons were very helpful-we saw osprey and eagles and redwinged blackbirds. She ended our tour with a philosophical reading from a favorite author of hers which was musch appreciated. The lake was beautiful and the mountains in the background were breathtaking.
It looks like a tiny little lake . . . and it is until you explore some of the channels and arms to the lake. The main part of the lake near the boat ramp appears to be dark water due to the bottom. Once you get out into the channels and arms . . .the water is crystal clear and you can see schools of fish cruising around on a good day. The fish are finicky and hard to catch here . . . do your research before you come to make sure you have the right flies and technique.
Favorite place to paddle when in the area. The lake is stunning. No gas motors. Twists and turns keeps the paddle interesting. Paddle to the end and then upstream to see the waterfall. Weekends are a zoo, so try to go during the week.
I love this lake. Great place to kayak or canoe. The lake is filled with giant Atlantic Salmon. You can only fly fish here and cannot keep the fish. Very clear water. Go early, it can get busy
We went kayaking with some relatives at Hosmer Lake ... it was really relaxing and nice ... we saw some osprey and supposedly there are Bald Eagles as well some times. Perfect for Kayaking with a parking lot adjacent that lends itself to kayakers.I took a dip and fair warning even in July the water is FREEZING!
Good place to take the kayak. Better in the early summer as it can get shallow. Great views of nature. Relaxing. Mt. Bachelor and South Sister in close proximity.
A gorgeous lake and not highly used. Excellent for any level of water experience. A peaceful kayak trip with opportunities to view Mt. Bachelor.
Wanting to try a different lake hike, I took the recommendation of a friend and headed up thinking I would have a similar hiking experience to Todd Lake. Sadly, I misunderstood her advice. The banks are very marshy and really no trail to speak of. I will, however, come back with my SUP next time!
Hosmer Lake is a wonderful lake to float around in a canoe. Easy to traverse the whole lake. Great scenery, too!
