The Cathedral speaks for itself. It was a magnificent structure and the maintenance and repairs only make it more incredible. The beauty and the absolute awe that eminates is intoxicating and unforgettable.
Amazing building. Architecture is wonderful, the organ magnificent. A lovely guide greeted us. The Sister Mary MacKillop statue is a new addition since my last visit many years ago just after the Cathedral was completed.
The outside gothic style appearance is imposing from its position on the hillside. Inside its relative simplicity and the way the light enters from unadorned windows gives it a very pleasing ambience. I would have liked to climb up to the towers but unsurprisingly the access gates were locked.
Set on a hilly knoll as you enter Bendigo, you can see this Cathedral's spire from almost every point in Bendigo. At night it is lit with soft lighting which shows off its architecture. Inside there are large wooden Angels looking down on you as you walk the marbled floor. Weddings are a favourite as well as Christenings. All people are welcome to come and visit, make a donation if you wish or stop by for some quiet time, reflection and prayer. A must see.
I have been fortunate enough to be to a wedding and a christening at this church it is beautiful I haven't seen a nicer one even if you are not religious it is worth a look
So beautiful and grand. Very peaceful and the organ playing was nice.Did not expect such a tall church in Bendigo.
Totally maginacent are the only words this place is a must see for all so awe inspiring and peaceful to be in go bendiego
Excellent choir and amazing bells. This magnificent cathedral, the last of the great cathedrals which take a century to build, puts paid to the old cliches about Europe having a monopoly on Western tradition - the glorious architecture of this building is the logical expression of the gold rush wealth and stonemasonry skills of the region.
This church is fascinating and the scale is unbelievable. The size is assisted by it's location, perched on a hillside high above the main drag into Bendigo. The entrances are grand and bold and the interior cavernous. I left my husband at the Rays Outdoors shop opposite to explore the church. I took a zillion photos but I think the statistics found on the internet, or similarly in the booklet for purchase in the church, are the staggering feature. The source of the different stones, the time taken to build it, the weight of the cross on the main turret, the types of wood used for the ceiling etc.Don't miss the great modern days likeness of Mary McKillop made from glass and bronze outside either.A jaw dropping church by any standards.
A fantastic occasion makes this an even better occasion. The Cathedral is a magnificent piece of sacred architecture that can be enjoyed with a wander through. It has provided a great venue for musical presentations as well. Its purpose is worship and it makes a great space when filled with community. We were there with family and friends for a wedding, and the light, vaulted ceilings, woodwork, stained glass and ambience all added to the occasion. An amazing, spectacular, friendly space.
