My husband and I go to Blue Jay Orchards many times per season, as my homemade apple butter is a favorite among our friends and family. The staff is friendly and informative and the prices are reasonable. Bring your whole family for a great time, but leave your pets at home, as they don't allow dogs in the orchards any more.
Absolutely unreasonable pricing. (We went on 10/13/13) Costs $20 to buy a empty plastic bag that holds about 3 lbs of pick-your-own apples. We paid it to make the family happy and enjoy a fun time with loved ones, but still felt incedibly ripped off. Pros: nice location and cute on-site store that reminded me a little of Trader Joe's.
We went apple picking here for the first time on opening weekend. Great time enjoying the orchard. After we were done picking we went to the store and picked up fresh apple cider donuts and apple cider to take home. We have been back to take the wagon ride (great deal at 2.00 per person) and have a snack of donut holes and cider. My daughter (who is 2) loved the wagon ride and running around in the pumpkins. Great place to go for a beautiful view, a tasty treat, and some fall fun!
Great apples especially the matsu apples...I cannt begin to rave about this place hopefully 2012 will have a good harvest of apples....
The kids and I had a great time. It was such a nice place that I only wished it had an event for kids during the Halloween weekend.
This is a family run orchard where you can go apple picking in the Fall as well as pumpkin picking. There are many varieties of apples to choose from.
There is nothing better to do on a Saturday in September in Fairfield County than go to Blue Jay Orchards. Pick whatever is ripe. Take the hay ride. Visit the pumpkin patch. Definitely stop in the retail center and get a pie or donuts. Perfect for all generations!
Blue Jays is a great small orchard to bring family and friends young and old. With about 2 dozen apple varieties grown on 40+ acres, it is great fun food younsters to enjoy the outdoors and learn about food. Hayrides and pumpkin picking is also fun.
AVOID THIS PLACE.The Obnoxious and rude manager tried his damnedest to ruin my daughter's apple picking birthday. Forget the fact that we had a dozen local families come to their farm AND that we spent a few hundred bucks on apples AND that we had cleared the entire plan with the office two weeks before hand... Big Joe Blow (self proclaimed manager for 30 years) could only say that parties weren't allowed and that we couldn't tie up a picnic table.. Couldn't unload our car... Couldn't tie up traffic.. couldn't have the kids in the faux pumpkin field. He insisted that no one in the office would have Ok'd our plan and was just a rude jerk the entire time.I have never written a review before but in this case I want these boneheads to get all the negative publicity they deserve.Be smart. Save your money. Go to Jones Farm in Shelton insteadhttp://www.jonesfamilyfarms.com
Blue Jay makes the absolute, scrumptious cider donuts. Can't get enough. Plenty of pumpkins and apples for the choosing.
