Begun about 1300 and completed in the 16th century. Charming cloister with roses and lemons giving a lovely scent.Became a cathedral only some half-century agp
This Cathedral as many in Spain reflect the catholic tradition opulence, very spiritual and a place to reflect and learn the history about the ancient culture of spain.
It's not magnificent in the way many churches and cathedrals are but it definitely has something, the moment you walk through the door. Worth a short visit.
Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful church, but we visited it close to the end of our two week European cruise, and after visiting many of the famous churches in London, France, Portugal, and other cities in Spain, this one just felt a little repetitive. It wasn't near as old, or quite as spectacular as most of the others in the area.
Being shooed out of anywhere by a flapping nun is not going to make anyone thing somewhere is a great place to visit, irrespective of whether God is closing for business or not.
This is such a wonderful old cathedral. The architecture is amazing and I would definitely recommend a visit
It's always lovely yo see a picturesque city from high up and this had great views of the town. But the close up views of the architecture that you get from up here is magical and well worth 12 euros (non- discount adult price)
Having traveled quite a lot, this cathedral didn't impress me very much since I've seen much better. However, I wouldn't visit a town without having a look at its cathedral, whenever possible. Bilbao having been mostly an industrial Town throughout the times, it is only natural that its cathedral does not feature the magnificence of others.
Such an amazing building, I did the audio tour which I really enjoyed! Make sure you take time out and explore all corners, there is little chapels, artwork etc which you would easy miss if you just walk around, The audio tour brought my attention to so many things that I would have otherwise missed.
In the heart of Bilbao, this cathedral is on the Plaza Santiago and is well worth a visit. You can sit outside and watch Bilbao go by!
