We took a stroll across the O'Callaghan-Tillman Bridge. It's not very long and the views, although perhaps not for those with fears of heights, are fantastic. If you're squeamish about heights, walk along the concrete divider that separates the pedestrian walkway form the high. You'll experience the beauty of the area without a direct exposure to how high you are.
Walk across this bridge to see all of the Hoover Dam from high up! It is a eye opening experience! You can also take great pictures from there of the Hoover Dam! We enjoyed our walk across and back again! Well worth your while!
If you've already walked the dam, prepare for one more cardio event. Roughly 1/2 mile of walking (uphill) to get the foot of this bridge, but so worth it. The bridge soars almost 900' above the river and makes the dam look... not big. Solid, high wall between walkway and road (you cannot see the dam from the road in a normal car or SUV), but a chest-high railing between the walkway and the river below. Perfectly safe, but not for those afraid of heights. Bring a stand or something to extend your camera above - and over - the railing for some truly breathtaking pictures.
If you park in the free parking lot at the base of this attraction, it will take you less than 10 minutes to get to the bridge. There are stairs and a rampway to the top. Once on the bridge, it is a high sight to the dam. Check your clock to make sure the shadows don't interfere with your pictures.
It's an amazing bridge. You can see the Hoover Dam from it and vice versa. It's an obligated stop if you visit the place and the ideal opportunity to watch the greatness of the US nation.
Excellent views of Hoover Dam. You do have to walk the whole way from the parking lot and across the bridge. We hiked 5-7 miles each day, so this wasn't really difficult, just be prepared.
The view from the bridge, looking at Hoover Dam and Lake Mead beyond is nothing short of phenomenal. I've been there several times and it still is thrilling to see it from such a fantastic viewpoint
We were on a bus tour so we didn't have time to walk all the way across the bridge. Wish we would have driven so we could have walked across to the Arizona side and back. This is such a beautiful bridge that even looks wonderful from the air flying into Las Vegas.
We walked across the bridge on a sunny and warm day. The views of the dam and lake mead are amazing. You are very high up so those with vertigo may not enjoy the walk. It is an easy walk end to end.
Nobody should NOT go see the Dam from the FREE vantage point provided at the O'Callaghan-Tillman pedestrian bridge at the Hoover Dam. I'm permanently disabled. I'm unable to climb very many steps, especially downward, and long inclines are trouble for me, too, Fortunately, the switchbacks that are built up to the bridge are not very steep at all. No problem for a wheelchair or walker. And, for those more able, steps at each level take you right up to the top. It's really not very far, either. It' looked a lot worse from the bottom. At a couple of circular rest stop landings near the top, displays are set up highlighting the planning, preparation and construction of the bridge and dam. In one location, a small scale true physical demonstration of the actual techniques used in how they mated the gorge walls to the dam, creating the solid Hover Dam edges, is there. It's actually quite amazing. Lots of interesting facts are shown. Warning - the bathrooms in the parking lot are atrocious! They are much more like outhouses than bathrooms. All four are "unisex," and no sinks or place to wash up is available. At least they had some hand sanitizer by the doors. So, try not to need to "go" before or after your excursion. No other amenities exist at this platform or parking area. Nothing is available within walking distance from here. So, bring your own drinks with you, and make sure everybody is well hydrated before going up on a hot or humid day. I wonder how many cell phones are at the bottom of that gorge where everybody stands above and takes photos? LOL
