This plaza or square is where rallies, protests, presentations, and gatherings occur. It is a short walk for the President to come here and speak. It is a quiet place to rest.
We spent New Year's Eve here and I will just say there is nothing better than spending it outdorrs while listening to live music and seeing a great fireworks show. The music, the people and the plaza were all memeorable.
There are various parts of the Simon Bolivar park. I have seen parque de los novios and the main Central Park. Both are full of trees and greenery. They have many vendors to buy food from places to bike/walk/run, concerts and a lake to go on a boat ride, peddle boats or canoes. It's a great place to relax with family, read, play sports or enjoy a picnic. I highly recommend it for a relaxing escape from the concrete jungle of Bogotà.
We went to the park on Sunday of a 3 day holiday weekend. There were tons of people but the park never seemed to fell overcrowded. We spent a couple of hours are walked completely around the large lake in the center enjoying all the sights and sounds of the park, There were tons of food vendors both inside and at the entrance gate of the park. Its a beautiful place to spend some time away from the hectic pace of Bogota. The park seemed clean and surprisingly well kept by the visitors, which can be a rare thing in Colombia. People seemed to use the trash cans that were abundant. There were many families enjoying the park, many had tents sent up for the day, picnic lunches, soccer games etc. The park seemed very safe and I never felt uneasy using my camera walking throughout the park. Its definitely worth a visit and we will return.
WE loved this area, too. Lots of people watching, local food. Just watch out for all of the pigeons. They sell food for them here, so they are everywhere. hundreds. But the plaza is still nice to see and take great photos of these historical buildings. Watch further and you will see the Presidential Palace and more.
This is the page for the park, not for the plaza in the center ( both Simon bolivar) . The park is nice, it is big and has water, good to people watch or relax with friends. In August there are lots of kites so that Is a plus
Nice organization, beautiful Park, cannot walk all, really huge.... 30 minutes from town riding the bus, got late to the Concert but liked it very much. Enjoy the Park!
Very impressive square and not too crowded. But a few beggars and pigeons everywhere. On a pedestrian walkway so a great walking place.
The Parque was listed on every tourist site I read, so I visited it. It was teeming with people, vendors, even a man who laid on broken glass. I enjoyed the architecture and walking by the president's house and offices, but all in all, it was a disappointment.
I was frankly disappointed when I arrived to the main square. The whole place looked neglected, dirty and there was a fair going on. There was graffiti in Bolivar's monument and a portable toilet in the middle of it all.
