Tough course for a hacker. Better players like it a lot, especially iron players that hit approach shots high.
Very beautiful course! Played with a group of friends on a nice day. It is a challenging and well kept course. Will play again!
Our foursome have played this course for the last six years, very challenging, we like it however there is quite a bit of walking required with some elevation, could be difficult if not in shape. We love it.
This course is absolutely beautiful, but, if you are not a good golfer, it will eat you alive! The fairways are immaculate and could pass for greens on many courses, the greens are fast and undulating and, in many cases, very hard to hit and stay on. Every hole has elevation changes and most have waste areas to carry. Once you get off the tee box, and you have a choice of 5, you will have a tough time finding a flat lie.If you are looking for a challenge, this is it. The toughest course I have ever played. It beat me up like a biker gang. And I want to go back!
Course was in excellent shape, good practice area, while course is challenging it is not unfairly so. Many great vistas, lakes, etc.
If you are planning a trip to Brezzy Point Resort and their All Inclusive, don't waste your time with the other 2 courses. Deacons is a hidden gem. Our group had to pay a bit extra which as it turned out was well worth it. Once you get used to the course conditions, and I might add they are perfect, you will understand how to play this course. The fairways were like a lot of greens that I am used to playing hahahah. The scenery is absolutely stunning and I ended up spending more time taking pictures than golfing. If you are in this area, don't miss this course. Reasonable rates especially if you play after 2. I think they are 60.00.
Deacon's Lodge is a serious yet fun test of golf. You have to keep it in play off the tee, but the course has much more generous fairways than most north woods courses. Deacon's was expertly designed, making it extremely challenging from the tips yet imminently playable from the combo or white tees. Believe it or not, the course record is 62 from the tips. A local golf shop professional holds the record. The greens are better in 2013 than they ever have been. They are undulating but not overly severe. I find it much more enjoyable than the Classic at Madden's, whose greens are too small, severe, and fast for resort play. There also is too much water in play at the Classic. Arnold Palmer's team got it right at Deacon's. It's a shame though that Deacon's doesn't get more play. Hopefully, Breezy will figure out how to market the best course in the area.
Considering MN had no rain, they've watered this, kept it groomed meticulously all summer. Each hole offered a stunning view, along with challenges and obstacles. One of MN's finest courses. Just hope new managment, which is the neighboring Breezy Point Resort keeps it affordable, and in the same great shape.
One of the most beautiful, but oh, so challenging course in the Brainerd Lakes Area. You have to either bring your absolute best game and their still may be blood on the cart or just have fun and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The restaurant/pro shop is equally as beautiful.
