On a recent trip to the area with my wife, we visited the Dam ad Weirs. I grew up a few miles from the dam and remember fishing in the river for trout. Time have changed with the addition of the weirs the river has gron in popularity with trout fishermen. The river was full of fishermen wading and drifting in boats. The weir has a park with walking trails, picknick tables, and boat landing.
We went for a drive up to the Dam and its quite impressive. Situated aroung the dam are lote of picnic tables and BBQs free for you to use. lower down near the wier is a great spot for some fishing and you can slap you fresh catch straight on the BBQ. Also make a nice romantic evening stroll along the river. The mrs loved it !!
Nice to see what the TVA has done. We only drove in and on the dam but a decent experience. I'd give it a 3 or 4 out of 5
Very nice area to rest, relax and enjoy the scenery. Nice drive in the mountains. I would highly recommend.
This was man made during the depression by TVA. Amazing sight. steps and steps of large rocks were piled between two close mountaing to block the water and it flooded a whole city.
We always love our trips to the Wier Dam. It is a nice place to take a walk, wade in the river, fish or just spend time with your family.
Beautiful park surrounds dam. Perfect for picture taking and wildlife spotting. Lots of deer to see. The streams to the west of the dam are teaming with trout. Fly fishing is big here.
I personally love to use this area for photography shoots. But when traveling and looking for a nice area to have a picnic this is a wonderful place... Plenty of shade and picnic areas plus plenty of room for children to run and play. Although there are no playgrounds for the children to play.
This is one of the most beautiful lakes anywhere! Clear, clean water surrounded by majestic mountains. This is God's country!
If you want a quiet spot loaded with huge catfish, go to South Holston Dam. On the road leading to the top of the dam, we saw a young doe munching on some grass. Our son did some fishing and hooked a catfish so large, it bent his hook! The view is incredible. If you're going, do some research into the creation of the dam and the little town that was flooded and sits at the bottom of the lake.
