Lovely old castle, you're given a candle to explore the ruins, worth going! Cesis is a very nice town to visit.
I have been to this castle twice. Once in 90's (as a child), and secondly in the 2014th. Both times it made me great impression. Great park, great ruins of the castle. This castle is a must see in Gauja national park and Cesis.
Cesis Medieval Castle is a must to visit not only because it is just next to the beautiful Castle park. It is located on the hills where our history started thousands of years ago. The castle still reminds of the powerful days the Order of Brothers in Sword spent there. One can experience that while participating in a historical performance, or just strolling among the ruins guided by old type candle lamp. I myself enjoy the visit there any time of the year!
While the people of Latvia are warm and the history fascinating, winter is not the best season for touring historical sites. Most of them are either closed only partly open.
Quite big medieval castle, you can go on top, funny, they give you a candle at reception. Inside you can also buy a lot of souvenirs.
Cesis town is a lovely place to stop over, seemingly unchanged over the years, and a look back at how towns used to look. The ruined castle in a small park is well worth wandering around and the town also has a delightful park and pond in the centre. Very pleasant place and a good stop for lunch at least.
Using a candle lantern to explore the underground features of this castle makes one feel a little bit like Indiana Jones. Our group, OAT tour, enjoyed the challenge of playing "Skiddles" in the backyard. Here also is a statue of Lenin in recline position. Nearby is a nice garden with several black swans. Across the road is a supermarket where one can purchase a bottle or two of buckwheat beer.
I recommend to visit the castle and spend a few hours. well done cesis on preserving such a beautiful place for all
The whole city Cezis is nice, have a walk around! But the castle is especially nice, and park around. It was renovated and looks very good.
It was nice to get out of Riga and see some more of Latvia and Cesis has a lovely town and castle. I would certainly recommend a visit.
