RECUCA is an unique cultural experience you cannot miss if you are traveling through Quindio. You will go by the farm and see what it takes to make coffee. Part of the tour includes harvesting it and of course, drinking it. Nice people around, great staff.
Really interesting visit and the enthusiasm and cheerfullness of the guide combined with some interesting and contemporary view on Colombian coffee production made it a very good experience. Interactive participation in the presentation including picking coffee and for a short moment trying out the workers condition was also very good.An attraction for all ages, and at the end they serve a really really good cup of coffee. I even believe it will be possible to get the tour in English, but that would most likely require preparation in advance to ensure an English SPeaking guide is there.Price performance is good.
We were slightly skeptical about the whole dressing up business and being made to feel a bit stupid but Cesar was such a good guide that it was great fun. It was clear that he enjoyed his job enormously and took the time to ensure that I could translate for the rest of my group. He had a genuine passion for coffee and knew his business well. The dressing up was actually enormous fun and we were all in hysterics including during the machete fight at the end.We opted for the lunch option and it was great to be served the same typical food as the staff were eating, essentially a bandeja paisa. My only complaint is the photos as there is an onsite photographer that will sell individual prints from the maybe 50 photos but will not sell them all on a disc. This I am sad to say is a typical Colombian attitude to business and short sighted on their part as I bought 2 prints when I would have paid double for the whole disc.
This is definitely a very educational yet interactive tour of the the coffee production process as well as of the norms and lives of coffee collectors in this region. Not only was the tour fun, but the staff went beyond the call of duty to be accomodating. When I was talking to my niece about what "panela" was, one of the guides over-heard us and went out of his way to bring some panela from the kitchen to show my niece. As if we weren't charmed enough, since one member of the group could not walk through the coffee field and had to wait behind during that portion of the tour, they found a staff member to play cards with him while he waited. I have never seen hospitality like this!
Recuca es muy divertido y esta bien ambientado, te hacen recoger cafe , luego mostrar el proceso completo, un pequeño show de la cultura cafetera, con trajes incluidos y tambien puedes asistir a una cata de cafe profesional

RECUCA is a very unique experience. Their motto says it all, "From seed to cup". Learn how to grow, cultivate, pick, select good beans, dry the beans, roast the beans, and make delicious coffee. They take you through each step of coffee growing and production. It is a great experience. The guides were very knowledgeable and experienced. Our guide spoke very good English. We dressed in the costumes and danced to music. Lunch was included with our admission.
At the suggestion of a few people we visited Recuca to learn about coffee production in Colombia. The tour starts with everyone dressing up in traditional clothing and told an odd history of coffee production mixed with sexual innuendos, but after that everything is worthwhile. There is a walk through the traditional methods of preparing the bean, a discussion of the cultivation of crops while walking among the coffee plants and an opportunity to spend some time picking the berries from the plants. A knowledge of Spanish or a translator are necessary.
Great enjoyment from welcome to farewell. You will be guided through a history of coffee production in Colombia with a full explanation of growing conditions etc. Our guide Ivonne, was very knowledagable and passionate about coffee. This is followed by a role play where you put on the equipment of the people who pick the coffee beans and pick some yourself! Then there is more role play putting on the typical clothes of the region, a five minute dance and photo opportunities. Then there is a demonstration of how coffee is dried and the steps which finish in a cup of premium grade coffee. Lunch is a traditional "bandeja" which is an optional extra. One suggestion for the managment, during the role play, photographs are taken and at the end of the visit you can view the pphotos and pay 10,000 pesos for a small picture. If I had been offered all the photos on a memory stick for 30,000 - 40,000 I would have paid for them.
