Cape GIradeau had to defend itself from Mississippi floods and so built a concrete wall which blocked out views of the river. So what to do? They commissioned a series of murals that show the history of the city and famous people either born in MIssouri or with a very strong connection with the state. It's certainly worth seeing.
My husband and I were visiting Cape Girardeau for the first time and as it was during the winter some of the places we wanted to see were closed. I remembered seeing the wall of fame on TripAdvisor so thought we would check it out. We are very glad that we did. The wall is organized by catagory (sports, cinema etc) and in front of each area/catagory there is a marker offering more description and further explanation on the murals. Also if you go further down the wall there is the continuation of murals showing River Life. Very nice.
The whole Riverfront area is worth a visit. The history of Missouri/Cape Girardeau and the Wall of Fame are nice improvements to the flood wall.
The flood wall in downtown Cape has beautiful murals painted on both sides of the wall. They tell a good overview of Missouri and Cape history. Always enjoy taking visitors here for a stroll and history lesson.
Been to see this multiple times very informative and some interactive options. Generally clean and occasional graffiti on signs along walkway but usually does not last long. One trip I saw graffiti on Monday and Wednesday I went back and it was gone probably kids playing pranks.
Really enjoyed the wall murals. Surprised by some of the Missouri folks included because I didn't realize they were from Missouri.
If you are in Cape Girardeau, this is something you don't want to miss. The paintings and history are quite good and it dresses up the levee wall.
Visited the wall with out of town relatives. It felt good to point out all the great names from Missouri
Always enjoy taking a little trip along the Wall, reliving some of the historic moments that took place here. Great job!
My husband & I went to look around downtown & decided to see it. It was very interesting with lots of information about the town & river. Then enjoying the beauty of the Mississippi River. A must see!!!
