What a most beautiful Botanical Garden. It is truely an assest to Castlemaine. The playground is imaginative, inventive and delightful. Really appreciated the atmosphere of the garden and could easily remark one of the nicest I've enjoyed.
A beautiful place with the lake & walking path great place for an afternoon. Visit or for picnic lunch
Children's playground, stunning Rotundas & beautiful old structures, the ornate fountain & history plaques were really interesting. The huge ancient, rare trees & plants were so beautiful.
These gardens are so lovely, especially in spring. Nice easy walking trails or average hikes. Dogs are welcome & the council even provides doggy poo bags.
Castlemaine gets very hot in summer and on such days it is a delight to sit or stroll in the botanical gardens in the deep shade of the many established trees. The gardens are a great place for quiet contemplation, to exercise or to enjoy a picnic or barbecue. They are well maintained and a joy in every season.
Close to town is this beautiful garden away from it all. Wondrous trees provide cooling shade on those hot days. It's certainly a place I plan to spend some time in this summer.
Our family loves visiting these gardens. There are beautiful old trees and the grounds are really well looked after. The playground is really beautiful with wooden structures and lovely sculptures. There are always friendly families enjoying the space. Definitely worth a visit for a walk/play/look around.
Hidden secret, locals love, great to walk, best at dusk or to picnic. Worth spending time wandering and sitting by lake
Away from the shopping centre along the railway line you will find the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens. We have some wonderful old trees but sadly have lost a few over the last few years. But you can see the replanting going on with a selection of different trees. The Gardens are a favourite place for local weddings and different functions and at weekends in the good weather you have to go early to get a table. There are BarBQues and a big area under cover this also has a great playground for children.Lots of locals walk around in the mornings or evenings to keep fit.The original fountain has been restored and you can see it as you come in the front gatesLake Joanna is home to many ducks. There have been extensive renovations to the gardens and the lake. A wonderful place for Peace & Quiet..
The Botanical gardens in Castlemaine are a delight. It has wonderful facilities for children, family functions and peaceful meandering. A walking path covers the perimeter and is used by hundreds of people for their regular exercise. The path wanders through a collection of fascinating plants and tree. Some of the trees are huge and originals from the mid to late19th century. There is no better place to relax. A feature is Lake Joanna, dug by hand in the 19th century by prisoners of the Old Gaol. It is superb, as is the beautifully restored fountain near the man entrance. The entrance itself is a work of art. Quite often the large roofed family area is used for family gatherings and reunions; equipped with electric barbeques it is absolutely perfect fot this purpose.
