We had a great time at the museum. We started with the trenches and could not get over the amount of work that went into buildng them. It was such a learning experience. The museum is excellent with something for everyone. It was very inexpensive a great day out.
has just installed a ww1 trench system to commemorate to first world war. The history of Cavan and its people were very interesting as was the feel of the old building
Brilliant trenches dug to give an authentic feel!!! The building is lovely with a great history behind it, full of extremely informative information and artifacts.
Loved this museum as it was very interactive and also the trench experience was totally unique, would recommend calling in!
The Cavan County Museum is well worth a visit. The museum is in the old Covent and the history covers both the Order of Nuns that lived there and the local Gentry ie The Farnham family. The 1st World War is also a feature with the added bonus of the trenches outside. Good value for money and plenty of free parking .
We traveled down to Cavan ww1 museum with our history group(S.A.S.H) Shankill Area Social History. We found the museum very interesting as down south the war was never really talked about. It is only lately that you could have remembered the brave soldiers from Southern Ireland who fought and died for the freedom we have today.
Being in the area we decided to visit the cavan county museum. The building houses some great artefacts over a number of floors and they are extremely wide ranging. Admission is very reasonable 3 euro per adult. However, the World War 1 trench experience and exhibition is amazing and worth the visit alone. If you are in the area make sure that you visit the Cavan County Museum.
..... with the largest replica trench system in the British Isles outside. Whilst the museumn is a bit out of Cavan, it is with a visit. Well researched Breast War exhibition inside together with reseasrcvh on the local aristocratic Farnham family.
The exhibits were laid out so well, the information posters were easy to read. The Farnham family portraits are so well displayed and wonder to see. The 3 floors of exhibits are all very interesting but the new 1st WW trench is so good, so real and the mine field is so realistic. A great day out for age groups.
We spent a pleasant couple of hours visiting. There are 3 floors of exhibits with lots of easy to read information and interactive exhibits covering the history of banners, The Famine, Emigration and general history. The recreated first world war trenches were also worth walking through. Our only criticism was we were unable to get a coffee in the cafe as it was being used for a large boisterous sewing club who looked like they were really enjoying their activity but left no room for visitors.
