This is a hidden gem. Had a bit trouble finding it and almost gave up, but are sure glad we didn't. It is one of the most beautiful sites we've seen. If you are in the area, it's a must see.
Stunning views, a little tricky in locating but well worth the trip. I was there in early fall and had a gorgeous sunny day. I felt as if I had found heaven on earth. A very special place & I hope to returnin the spring.
My wife and I had a wonderful time here. Breath taking views and a true experience with God. Will be back. The short time we were there Tuesday thru Friday made 7 trips to the chapel. Each time it was a different view with my highlight being a Bald Eagle swooping down past the cross about 50 yards away. Also called Pretty Place it's not totally correct should be called beautiful place. One visit the clouds were so heavy could barely see the cross but it gave me peace. Thank you God for such beauty in this world and for your gifts. Thank you for touching my heart and speaking to me on the visit. Oh, I want to go back I miss it already. It's a must, don't miss it.David and Betty Rork of Gurley, AL
That's what the locals call the open chapel...Pretty Place. This is a stunning chapel in the mountains on the border of North and South Carolina not far from Ceasars Head State Park. The winding road past the YMCA Greenville Camp and then beyond will take you to the little stone chapel. As you enter this quiet space, the view of the mountain backdrop behind the large wooden cross is breathtaking as the chapel's front altar is the open and expansive view of the Appalachians. The pews invite you to sit awhile, take in the view and then enjoy the many plaques around the walls with Biblical quotations given by various benefactors. Enjoy this special location and be refreshed.
We came here during the winter and it was absolutely gorgeous! The drive up was incredibly frightening for me (afraid of heights), but was WELL WORTH IT! Would definitely go again. It's not an attraction so much as just a great place to breathe, and relax, and say thanks for what mother nature creates for us to enjoy. Love it! Beware the bathrooms are closed during winter though!!!
Absolutely breath taking views. I attended a wedding there and it was foggy, but still beautiful. The fog lifted enough to have the wedding and take pictures. The weather can be a little unpredictable; but it is definitely worth the trip. I went back and took my Mom and husband just so they could experience it and they both said it was unbelievable. It was just as awesome the second time. I give it a 12!!!!
Incredible beauty that only God could create.A must see place. This place is truely a piece of Heaven.
Fred W. Symmes Chapel is the most beautiful little chapel with breath-taking views! I visited here several years ago and it had a lasting impression on me. I still remember this chapel as "Pretty Place" and actually didn't know it had another name until I researched it online. When I first stepped into this chapel, I was astonished! I couldn't believe how very beautiful the mountain views were! A feeling of peace and tranquility came over me like never before.Through the years I have visited many places and nothing compared to the AMAZING views that I was blessed to see at this lovely little chapel. This place holds dear to my heart. I still can remember the feelings of peace and tranquility that filled me from overlooking the vast array of mountains in this cozy little outdoor chapel. This is definitrly a must see!! It will, no doubt be worth your time. As for the memories that last a lifetime....PRICELESS!!
This is a beautiful chapel with a spectacular view and worth a 10 minute drive from 276. Take your camera.
Just on the border of SC and NC state line there is this one of a kind chapel open to the majesty of the mountains. It is awe inspiring. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who walks through the unassuming entrance feels a sudden shift in perspective. It is simple. It is beautiful. Would like to see it every season to witness how it changes. Go on website YMCA Greenville for directions..we traveled from Greenville SC and found it with no problem. It is open to public everyday during daylight hours. We stopped on our way home at a great cafe in Travelers Rest. Will review Cafe at Howards Hardware soon.
