We just spent six nights camped in our pop-up camper at Challis Hot Springs. I've been going to Challis Hot Springs since about 1967, and this was my first visit in about ten years. The camp sites were extremely spacious with nice shade trees and a big, green lawn. The RV sites had water and electric connections. It was a little far to the restrooms, but for those who didn't want to make that hike, there were well-maintained port-a-potties with a hand washing station much closer to the camp sites. We were camped close to the Salmon River, and even managed to catch a few small trout.Of course the highlight is the Hot Springs itself. The hot spring is enclosed with concrete sides and a gravel bottom, and is emptied out every night. Well water is pumped into the main pool to keep the temperatures a bit cooler. The smaller "Hot" pool is enclosed in a building, and while it is a little hot for my taste, I know that a lot of people really enjoy it. These two pools are not hotel swimming pools with nicely finished concrete surfaces and a bunch of chemicals in the water. It is a Hot Spring, and is a wonderful place for a soak, and still accommodates the kids who want to play. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and they remembered our names from the moment we checked in. The drive from the main highway to the Hot Springs takes you through some of the local farming areas, and in the mornings and evenings you just might see some deer along the way. This is THE MUST-SEE AND DO ATTRACTION in Challis. For me, no trip to Challis is ever complete without a visit to the Challis Hot Springs.
Our family couldn't visit as the hot springs are not public. Was planning a trip to Challis for the sole purpose of visiting the hot springs. We will not go there now.
We get by Challis every now and then with our motorcycles. On the way from Craters of the Moon to Stanley or on the way to Sun Valley or just touring about. The hot springs have real decent camping. We love to try different hot springs and these have a gravel bottom through which percolates some REALLY warm water. You can only take it for a bit before you have to get out and cool down. But it is so relaxing.Great spot.
Our family of four stayed at Challis Hot Springs on our way to Craters of the Moon National Park. We had a lovely tent site, under the trees in a green, grassy spot. The hot spring pool was very relaxing and the grounds were clean and nicely kept up. The staff was very friendly. We are looking forward to coming back someday with more time to stay and see the sights around Challis.
Just got back home after enjoying this wonderful hot springs near Challis Idaho. My wife and I stayed a night in the wonderfully restored 1890 house, and had a great breakfast in the large, separate dining / lounge building that is available any hour during your stay. The hot pools were just the right temperatures, with the larger one warm, but not too warm to swim in. The smaller pool was good and toasty, and was for meant for soaking away those aches and pains and relaxing. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The folks care-taking the place were very friendly and fun to chat with. The setting is beautiful, and the price is very reasonable. We will be back.
beautiful clean property. Spectacular scenery. Warm & friendly hosts. Even the other guests were great! We will be back to enjoy the hot pool & hospitality again!
We stayed here on our way to Stanley and delighted that we did! The B&B is charming and the new owners and their boys are marvelous - how I envy them in that they are on this new adventure! The rooms are clean, nicely decorated and oh, so comfortable, with a nice little deck for star gazing. The campground is beautifully kept, with the Salmon River floating by. The mineral pool is wonderfully relaxing & a great place to meet fellow guests and exchange stories. Breakfast in the morning was scrumptious and located in a very quaint building next to the main house. Interesting history of the place - ask them when you stay!
We love to explore various hot springs as we wander the backroads of the West. This one has a gravel bottom with REALLY hot water at your feet. Wonderful pool, very rural, great stop for the weary on a cool night. We first came here years ago when just the hot springs were open to the public. Challis is a great gateway to some wonderful country.
This spot is a gem! After a long day traveling or motorcycling this is a must stop. A soak in the perfect temperature hot spring will have you relaxed and feeling good. It is simply delicious. The campground is nice too. Reasonably priced. If I'm in the area I will stop here - it's worth it.
Just spent the weekend there with my husband. You couldn't find more accommodating B&B hosts! Mike and Shannan are awesome. The pools were wonderful and relaxing. Lots of bird viewing and wildlife viewing in the area and trails for hiking. We'll be heading back that way soon!
