We experienced this right before we went to Ruby Falls which is right next door and it was fun! I was a little scared with how steep it was but it was for sure worth the adventure!
The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway is a true, original part of history that demands appreciation. Not only is it unique, but quite a feat from a engineering standpoint as well. The only downside about this ride is that it sometimes requires a lengthy waiting period, but the patience pays off after the experience is over. It's not a thrill ride, great for families or couples who like random adventure, and the hospitality is nice as well. A must see in when visiting Chattanooga.
Everyone needs to ride the mile long/high incline railway up lookout mountain at least once in their lives...It is a great experience...You'll be glad you did..At the top there is a breathtaking view of the city of Chattanooga...and one can almost imagine how it was during the battle in the Civil war era...
Really looked forward to this trip. Unfortunately the day that we were booked in for was very cloudy and overcast. The views were great as we started out and then we disappeared into the low cloud. This was not the experience that we had anticipated, however, despite the lack of view it was still enthralling! The whole of the mountain was covered in fog which gave it a wonderfully muffled, eerie quietness; just the sound of birds in the trees, The houses could still be seen and their very position piqued the imagination! Point Park may not have had the anticipated views on the day that we went, but the atmosphere was positively haunting! I'd go no matter what the weather !
We rode this from the bottom about dark. The views were pretty and the ride interesting, I might do this once but not several times. Make sure to walk to Point Park about 3 blocks away for great views of the river and downtown.
It was something you should see at least one time. We did and are really glad we did. It's a little expensive but for the one timeit was fine and we have done it before at other places. like the Village at Stone Mountain, Georgia. To visit the Village was slightly high but for a one time experience we did it. Even tough we saw many things you may not see elsewhere we did make return visits to Stone Mountain especially for the Laser show which is included in the entrance price.
The Incline Railway is a quick ride up the mountain and back down. At the top you'll find a little gift shop and a breathtaking view of the city beneath you. While at the top take a walk at the surrounding area and admire the view and scenery. Not the most thrilling of Chattanoogan attractions, but this ticket can normally be purchased with a combo pass to Rock City and Ruby Falls making it almost free.
But my kids love it!! I would never do it again. I had the feeling I was dangling from the side I a mountain by a string. I couldn't imagine how this was done way back when. I loved and hated it all at the same time. You have to at least try it once.
Nice ride down...or up...the mountain. Very steep incline. Spectacular views. of the surrounding area and the City of Chattanooha.
It was a good experience for me and the kids. It was a little scary for me, because it reminded me of a rollercoaster. It was interesting to hear about history. I love to hear about those type of things.
