Sadly, there is not a lot to see of the remains of this castle. There is currently some restoration being done. As for now, it is leisurely and relaxing to walk among the former castle "complex" that has now become homes and businesses. There are some very pretty homes, windows, and archways to photograph. Although the available maps are not the best, you will be able to find a few remnants of the castle by using this. There is a lovely plaza that is near the entrance where you can have coffee. Our coffee was served in a small French press along with sugars, sprinkles, cream and 2 little cookies free of charge.
Right in the center of the city of Chios, this is an ideal place for having a walk around and coffee in its lovely square. It seems though that this attraction has more to offer as long as everything seems recently renovated and fully functional.
This is a must for the amazing island of Chios! Go back and watch the documentary and be amazed once you are actually there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEC2CBm6OAoThe aura is unreal, plus you can end the walking tour with lunch or dinner in the castle square and raise a glass of vino to day of glory and plunder past.. WOW!
Nothing really special. Signing is not that great and map we received from local café owner wasn't all that great and we missed a few points of interest.
I am not sure if you should visit it but I can tell you it does not have much to offer.Apart of the external walls, the inside has very little to offer. At the end of our walk, we show the Turkish baths which have been refurbished but the woman who was in charge closed the baths and did not let us go inside. She claimed we were too late.
Well, its one of the finest castle I have seen in my life especially if you are on the mood to take a walk and see each intch of its beauty. One of the most exciting parts is that you can walk on top of the walls and climb its towers. It also has great view of the port.
If you have time and if you like to visit historical place, you can go there. we just passed from outside of castle cause we couldn't find time to visit. It's so close to port.
Very close to the town center. Definitely worth to see. Churches and mosque are together. Cafes are also nice.
The Castle is a completely different scene from Chios town, so worth to visit to walk around, visit the Old Hamam (now turned into a gallery), have a look at the other sites and grab a coffee or drink at the square.
It was interesting to walk through the streets inside the castle walls where people still live normally. It was interesting to see if you are in the area but I would not go out of my way to see it. It is in the downtown area and easy to get to.
