I really enjoyed this walk, even though I live quite close to the Kinglake National Park, so cool climate rainforests are not exactly a novelty. The trail leading to the start of the treetop walk is an easy downhill walk and well signposted along the way with interesting facts about the flora and fauna. I have a moderate fear of heights, but felt quite safe walking along the platforms with their sturdy safety rails. I even braved the tower with its narrow spiral staircase. There's quite a view from up there, but it does sway noticeably, so if you're a bit nervous, it might not be for you. I avoided the cantilever, however - I'm not that brave. The tall mountain ash are impressive, and there's a huge range of plants, including epiphytic ferns (the ones that grow on trees), mosses and what looks like a carpet of tree ferns under your feet. The fauna was hiding whilst I was there though - only a few small birds showed themselves. I had hoped to spot a tree frog or one of the more exotic birds, but no such luck.I thought the $25 cost was about average for this type of attraction. I've certainly paid more for less impressive tourist attractions overseas. As others have noted, it's a bit of a walk to the visitor centre from the car park, but it's more or less flat and a well maintained gravel path, so not exactly a hardship. There is a disabled car park close to the visitor centre, but if you have difficulty just walking from the car park, you're probably not going to be doing the treetop walk anyway. The return walk to the visitor centre, which is uphill, was more strenuous than I expected it to be. You'll either need a reasonable level of fitness, or allow extra time and stop and rest on the benches provided along the track. The cafe was OK - about what I'd expect at a tourist attraction. Not bad, but nothing memorable either. Go for the walk and have lunch elsewhere.
whether you approach from Lorne or Apollo Bay as we did it takes a while, an hour and one half probably, to get there. You should also be aware that route 159 is VERY twisty, filled with blind corners and NARROW. If you are still adjusting to driving on the left be extra cautious. The treetop walk is classic rain forest but with a nice wide path. While it is all down hill to the tower it is therefore all uphill on your return. There is however, a bench area that runs on the half hour to pick up those that cannot make the return trek. You can also flag down the little golf cart if you see them approach. The metal ramp is an amazing structure and provides a unique perspective to the forest. While it is very stable the cantilevered portion and the top of the tower have some natural movement especially when it is a it windy as it was when we were there. The climb to the top of the tower is quite open if you have a fear of heights and one woman was clearly unhappy with that but had a grim determination to get to the top.It has already been mentioned but purchasing your tickets at an information center saves you $5 a ticket.
If you're looking for a quiet walk through the Otways this is NOT it! Admitedly it was school holiday time but I found the track quite crowded and noisy. Apart from this though, the scenery was great and it was a nice experience to walk above the tree tops. My other concern (as a photographer) was that the safety barriers, which I understand are absolutely necessary, impedied any great images. I am 5 foot 1 but could not get the lens above the railings.
We've been wanting to visit the Otway fly for a long time and very pleased we did it today. We got our tickets on sale thru the RACV, worthwhile doing! We paid $30 for 2 of us. This enabled us to walk on the walkways among the treetops, and its a great experience! The views are spectacular, as the different vegetation of the area and it gives you a real sense of just how big and tall the trees are! We did not do the zip line. The cost for this $120 each!! Allow around 1 to 2 hours to do it all leisurely. Wear comfortable walking shoes, take a rain jacket (we wore ours all the time), it rains every second day there. We took a pic-nic lunch and they allowed us to take it inside the cafe visitors centre and eat it there in table and chairs, a big area and comfortable seating with great views. The toilets were clean. There is a souvenir shop in case you want to purchase a souvenir.
If you are looking for a thrill this is not it. $114 and 25 extra for photos....have tried other zip lines and this is by far the least exciting.
We got the tickets at a discounted price ($20 each) at the visitor information centre in Lorne, and then drove up the mountain. It is around 1.5 hour drive from Lorne (depending on your speed)… which sounds okay but it felt ridiculously long on our way there, driving through the winding mountain roads, thinking "THIS BETTER BE GOOD".I must say the experience was worth the long drive! It was really cool walking so high top among the treetops, climbing up the tower, and standing on the suspension platform. What an unique experience, definitely recommended for those who love the nature.I noticed that they provide shuttle service in the compound, for those who have difficulty getting to the treetop walk section (quite a distance and needs to climb up and down slopes). If you have no problems walking on flat surface, this treetop walk shouldn't be a problem.
Really long walk from car park to visitor centre. Long walk to tree top walk. That was awesome apart from the idiots who decided to scare the kids by bouncing on the canter lever. The website advertises the prehistoric walk and our young kids were excited. We looked for the dinosaurs, checked the map we were given but could find no evidence of them. Take them off the website if they are no longer there it only leads to kids disappointment. Have been to the tree top walk in Tasmania. It was set up much better.
We were happy just to do the TreeTop walk especially considering the price of the zip line, which is way over priced in my opinion. Having said that the Tree Top walk was really good and gives a different perspective of the rain forest. Again, for what it is I think it is a bit overpriced. If your not set on doing the tree top walk or zipline and just want to see and experience the rainforest I would suggest driving a further 3km up the road to Triple Falls. A bit of dirt road to negotiate but well worth it, and free.
Great experience if you're not scared of heights and even if you are, once you get going, you have so much fun that you forget you are sometimes 20m above the ground and flying through the air. Will definitely recommend to anyone who visits this area
去过不少森林,却在这里第一次现在上方低头看大树,不同的视角带来不一样的视觉体验,觉得值得到处一游!可惜没能体验一把索降的乐趣,不过漫步林中也是不错的!
