Out of the way but a treat for the lovely gardens; rock garden especially nice; usually quiet; can be difficult to find
We had stumbled across this place on my birthday. We had a river cruise planned in Newburgh but were way to early so we looked on the GPS for something to do. This came up as a possibility. It was easy to find and cost $5 per person. I love the grounds. The smell of the flowers was powerful and amazing. The dog that roams the property was very friendly. The bathrooms were sooooo clean! I loved the water areas. I cannot say enough about this place. For $5 a person, it was a steal!
Gorgeous flowers, delightful paths with little surprises (sculptures, planters, vistas). Places to sit and enjoy an al fresco lunch (please bring everything you use back out with you, there are no garbage pails.) Wander and meander through at your own pace. A truly beautiful nature setting.
Still need to organize all the fabulous photos I snapped--a gorgeous view around every corner. It's that good. And a little bit funky, too: I dig those tables and sills lined up with pots of dormant bulbs covered with a big stone...quite the stone crop, I'd say. And the most delightful so not scary scarecrow, with bonnet, granny glasses, and a long skirt. Went in early July--so many flowers, colors, textures, frogs, paths to take.
We came soon this oasis from the warm humid day while visiting Cold Springs. The gardens offer a variety of settings and plant life. The flower gardens were a riot of beautiful color. The rest of the property was a peaceful journey through trees, bushes, and a most creative use of rock and water. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would love to go back to visit in other seasons!
Went here with tickets from the Garden Conservancy and was pleasantly surprised by the size and beauty of this huge garden. Spend a whole day just strolling and or relaxing along the paths with beautiful views of the distant hills. Well worth a visit.
This garden location is just exceptional. The surrounding hills and mountain backdrop make this a lovely location to relax and enjoy!
Pretty little garden that is well worth the $5 admission charge, especially if you are looking for a nice place to picnic (tables and chairs on terraces in places). I've seen a great many major gardens and this is certainly not comparable. But it is a nice place to while away an hour or two if you are in the vicinity. Be aware that mapquest directions are wrong. Check the website for the correct directions!
Expansive gardens with natural trails. Lots to see and several things in bloom. I would recommend going. Room for children to run.
We were on a bus tour of the gardens and homes of the Hudson Valley sponsored by the Horizon Club Tours of Buffalo. This was one of our earlier stops and was very educational. Our tour guide was Robin and one educational plus was an updated list (every two weeks) of the flowers and plants of interest with a number at the plant and a corresponding list with Genus and common name. The woodland gardens was a favorite along with the raised alpine stone beds, cliff rock gardens, grass garden among others. I'm on their website now to order seeds for fall planting. Worth your visit by maybe not in a bus. Driveway steep and very narrow!!
