It is kind of fun to step out over the ravine and test your tolerance for heights. Are you a daredevil or a fraidy cat? The swinging bridge is aptly named and can move around a bit. The timid will not want to be on the bridge with others that enjoy rocking it. I would not go out of my way to visit, but it is worth a stop if you are passing nearby, less than 10 miles from either US61 or US218. There is a small sign directing you to the bridge from Hwy 92 in Columbus Junction.
Built in 1886. No fee to cross. So if you are in Columbus Junction you should check it out. It connects two streets separated by a ravine. Just fun to walk across.
I grew up in Columbus Jct. and we would go to the Swinging Bridge. My kids now go. It is a part of history. Great little day trip. We like to pack a lunch and head to the bridge and hit the city park for a "cheap" date.
