The owners started their vineyard to grow grapes for a nearby winery. After a few years, they decided to try their hand at making a merlot wine themselves. Several years of working with merlot led them to add Sauvignon Blanc...then cabernet, pinot grigio, a reserve blend and Freedom were developed. (A portion of Freedom's profits are donated to Fisher House in San Antonio, a home away from home for families of wounded warriors.) A very popular blend is a Sweet Lupe, a sweeter merlot, delicious with chocolate as a dessert. They host a fun concert the second Saturday of every month, with a food truck on the premise. Seating is available indoors and out - they even have a treehouse for the young at heart!
This establishment was beautiful from the moment we turned into the drive. GPS tried to take us to an earlier driveway, but they have a sign telling you to go to the next gate. It was such a relaxing place to sit and experience a wine tasting. We went to their back room where they had tributes to military veterans, and multitudes of quotes on the walls concerning freedom. A GREAT assortment of wines. Instead of just giving us bland crackers to help cleanse our palates, they offered a couple of snacks to try to enhance certain wines. With their "Sweet Lupe" they gave us three types of chocolate to try! Chocolate - with wine - a new experience for me!!! Staff were very friendly and took time to chat and share their stories. Veterans receive a 10% discount.
We started off touring day 3 with our first visit being to Singing Water Vineyards. What a wonderful start to a trailing day! The folks here at Singing Water are simply the friendliest folks you will ever find. We immediately felt taken in to their home/place of business with warm, loving arms. Traci, our hostess, and Lauren, the marketer and our second hostess, made us feel right at home.We spent some time with Kevin, the Assistant Vintner, who gave us a tour of their facility and a VERY nice education. I learned a couple of new tidbits (read our blogs to learn them also!), which I always find interesting. And, did you know that the creek for which the vineyard is named after dried up in 2010! Kinda sad!We did learn that the owners, Dick & Julie Holmberg, bought the place in 1996 and had their first harvest in 2001. They have a really cool room that is dedicated solely to active duty and retired military. Pictures and letters hang on the wall. It is so gracious and respectful. They also have the most amazingly relaxing looking backyard type area, just waiting for spring time to arrive!! I can envision great get-togethers here in warmer weather! And the wine…well….very nice! “A’s” and “B’s” with only 1 “C” in the bunch. Mark this vineyard down as a “go-to” stop on your next wine trail in the Fredericksburg area! Visited Dec 2013.
Singing Waters has a beautiful location with a very nice tasting room. The relaxing outside grounds are so nice for sipping wine and taking in nature. The Freedom Cabernet is very good and the patriotic atmosphere is a testament of the importance of remembering our precious brave men and women that have fought and are fighting for our freedoms.
Hello, thank you for writing such a lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed your time at our winery and had a great first visit in Comfort. We hope to see you again soon!
My wife & I came here for a tasting on a Sunday afternoon. Their Freedom is a great red, & they do give a portion of the money from each bottle of Freedom they sell, to the Fisher House, which benefits veterans. if you prefer a sweet or a semi-sweet red, their Sweet Lupe can't be beat. Their winery is beautiful, a good drive out into the country, but well worth it.
This was a great Vineyard. We fell in love with their Sweet Lupe white. It is close to Bending Branch as well and a Ranch where you can have a nice lunch (before 3). If not, hit up Highs, cafe in town for some great food between vineyards. $6 to taste and the bottles were reasonable.
Julie and DIck Holmberg settled in the area and wanted to grow grapes for another winery. After w while, the wine-making bug hit. Once they started with merlot then sauvignon blanc, the number and quality of their wines have increased every year. They offer music and food trucks every second Saturday. What a fub olace to settle in chairs under the lovely arbor, sip a delicious Texas Reserve wine and listen to TX music! Heaven in the Hill Country.
If you are looking for some excellent wines try this one near Comfort. It has a great facility with a very friendly and helpful staff. Their wines are very good - especially their Melot and Freedom Cabernet.
Solid, award wining wines striving to be above par with good vineyards, in a comfortable location outside of Kerrville, Texas. The owners have a particular fondness for those serving in the US military and reflect that with a special room dedicated for that purpose and a "Freedom" wine, but the basics are covered even if that is not of interest. The tasting room is pleasant not large and honestly represents the choices and selections. In all aspects the staff were cordial and friendly without being pushy.
