It has all kinds of old trains cars that kids can go inside and see and climb all over. Great place to take pictures. Very clean, nicely done. When u go inside you will learn a lot of history about the depot. Pictures of the area to show how it was yrs ago. They have a restroom inside. A small gift shop is also inside. Very nice lady that worked in there and she could answer any questions we asked. They have a model train display of the area & old railroad memorabilia. Any train buff should check it out or anyone with kids that like trains. The hubbs loves any thing to do with trains he is a model railroader. Daughter had some of her senior pictures professionally taken there, they were really good. So it is very good for photo ops. Cut little area!
I road the Tennessee Central Railway excursion train to Cookeville on a fall foliage trip. It stops at this neat little depot in Cookeville. It is a well maintained little museum that is free to see. For the small space it has a lot to see. In addition to the train cars outside, the is a miniature display inside and a few small exhibits of the depot manager and baggage handling. The building is well maintained and attractive with a unique architecture and is in the heart of the old downtown district near shops and restaurants. Arriving by train from Nashville made it a special treat.
This museum is small and simple -- but very well done. The man working at the museum was friendly and informative. I thought the inside was really taken care of well, and the model train set up was not amazing -- but worth seeing. It didn't take long to wander through the depot, but we were glad we stopped.
Love the Depot!! It's always a nice time to visit and enjoy. Always take the family when they are in town.
The Cookeville Depot Museum gives you a great feel for the importance of the railroads in the Cumberland Plateau region of Tennessee. You can see an old steam locomotive and lots of artifacts from the depot's hey days inside the museum. Congratulations to all the citizen volunteers for their diligence in preserving the history.
Took my kids here. They're in love with trains so it was a great place to stop off and waste a few minutes at. A must see for train lovers of all ages.
We have some extra time and decided to visit. There were quite a few young kids enjoying the place with their parents. We enjoyed it too. You can climb in the cars plus the small museum has some interesting stuff. Plus it's free! We enjoyed the ice cream parlor nearby too.
The Depot has so many activities! Follow them on Facebook to stay informed! Train Stories on Friday mornings with Beth are great!
You AND KIDS can climb on old trains for "photo ops". A wonderful staff and neat little gift shop = good way to spend an hour ( also has a yummy and friendly ICE CREAM shop accross the road. )
We were here late after a visit to Cream City Ice Cream, but the train park is great, clean and family friendly. I can't wait to go back to see the museum.
